Hi, I am new to this forum and would like very much to get some input. Here is my story. My sister is 56 yrs old, smoked a pack a day for probably 40 yrs. Hasen't been for a physical since my nephew was born (19 yrs ago). Her very stupid reasoning being "if something is wrong I would rather not know". She lost her 1st husband at the age of 31 to a brain tumor 3 weeks before their first anniversary.anyway back to my story..a couple of weeks ago she went to the emerg with a collapsed rt lung. after several x-rays and a cat scan she was referred to the surgical oncologist, apparently she has air filled cysts in both lungs that need to be removed and a tear in the rt one that needs repair.there has been nothing said about cancer. I am really worried, and i am of the mindset that a dr would not tell you they "think" it might be cancer ,I think they would say nothing until there is positive proof. My sister and I are very very close and I never ever thought of a time when she might not be here, she is the glue that holds the family together since my mother died 12 yrs ago, you know the type, the one that holds all the family get togethers at her house ,the one that has the right advice, loving caring and giving all the time...i guess most of you can relate to that person in some form, anyway the bottom line is that she is my big sister. and i love her. tayreb, im very sorry to hear about what your sister is going thru. it is also hard to watch someone we love go thru health problems. im gonna guess since they havent mentioned cancer that it is probably not what they are expecting to find. my doctors were upfront about it from the get go. i will definitely keepyour sister in my prayers and thoughts and prya for good results. keep your chin up:wave: melissa

hi Melissa,
Thank you so much for responding to my post, her schedule for surgery is feb12th, I failed to mention that she has really lost alot of weight, she has gone from a size 10 a couple of months ago to a size 4 or 5 now. I pray that you are right, and my fears are for not, the waiting and not knowing is very hard, and the ache in my heart when she starts talking about the things that are really important in her life, and the things she must do before she has this surgery, I try to be positive and tell her that she will have plenty of time to do stuff after she recovers, but inspite of it all, deep down inside of me I am expecting bad news.I just can't seem to shake those thoughts no matter how hard I try. thank you so much for your well wishes. I really appreciate it. take good care.......Tayreb
