Hi,I'm new to the boards and would love some help with motivation.I have type 1 diabetes,I was diagnosed 6 years ago.Up until the middle of last year I had great control (HbA1c of 6.2) I exercised daily, ate properly and so on.Then I hit the menopause... can't say I was expecting it at 40 and I had every symptom there is lol.My doctor did the blood tests and then started me on HRT,he's increased my dose 3 times and now the symptoms are under control but I'm not!!I eat all the wrong stuff, have terrible cravings for carbs... sugar.. pastry...bread..all the stuff I don't usually eat.I seem to have lost all motivation,I'm putting on weight and it's making me depressed.Has anyone else dealt with this or have any advice,I'd appreciate anything at this point!!
Sorry for the long opener!! Hope to hear from anyone soon! LOL
Thanks

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes three years ago, I rearranged my lifestyle and got things under fairly good control. My mother died last fall and there were many other stresses, and my control has slipped. I am now working at getting by blood sugar back to better levels and working on living a healthier lifestyle in general.

I think that life will throw you some curves which cause you to not do things the way you want to. It's simply part of living. What I think you need to do is take a deep breath, go online, and reeducate yourself about diabetes and its consequences. I've found it helpful to read other peoples experiences, and there is always new information available.

No one is perfect, and if we've had diabetes for some time most of us will have times when we don't always do things the ways we want. It's just important not to let these low points continue too long and to find a way to get back on track as soon as possible.

Good luck! Please let us know how you're doing!!

Thanks! I know I've disconnected somewhat over the last few months, haven't been on any forums or spoken to anyone else who deals with diabetes. It does help, which is why I thought I'd register and hopefully raise my morale a bit.I know I have to get back on track...it seems easier said than done sometimes :dizzy:
I'm dreading the results of my next A1c (in about 6 weeks)
I feel better already to be among other people that know how it is.
Thanks for your reply and I'll certainly keep posting!
