View Full Version : The Best Exercise - Walking

Actually, I hear walking is the best exercise. I never knew how beneficial just plain old walking was. It's simple and if your looking to tone, just add leg and arm weights! Also, if your trying to loose 'the gut', you can do a thousand sit-ups, but you have to do some sort of aerobic exercise! Does anyone else walk??

hello stephanies41280,

i powerwalk monday thru friday at 5:00 a.m. before i go to work. it jump starts my day and at night i bike. i don't think the walking actually tones my legs but it does help. i also walk on the weekends a lot but no particular time.

I walk 2-3 miles a day, I like to walk early in the morning, it seems to give me more energy thru the day. I also keep my weight in check by walking on a regular basis. It is a great way to start off the day.

If you've got access to a swimming pool, then do some swimming (laps or treading) a few times a week. It's easier on the joints than walking...or any other weight bearing exercise I can think of for that matter.

I've noticed that women tend to be bigger fans of walking more often than men.

I think it's a great cardiovascular exercise for people who are too obese to do other activities, have limited time, or just plain enjoy walking but not the strain of certain other more "intense" exercises.

i would love to swim but no pool. trying to get access to one now.

most people don't walk fast enough or pump their arms. i had to show a couple how to do it the right way yesterday.

Just a tip about the pool...if you live near a college or university find out about their community based programs. Within ten minutes of where I live there is a small college that has an olympic sized indoor pool and for 15 dollars a month one person can swim at any time other than swimming classes. Given that the pool is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and classes are scheduled in 3 one hour blocks that gives me plenty of time.

Might be worth checking out for the great price.
