Wake up at night with burning throat, teeth sensitive, sometimes tongue burns. Very rare that I will have heartburn or reflux during the day unless I eat alot.

Wake up with sore throat (sometimes have this all day), excess mucous (I can see it in the back of my throat), throat clearing, red throat. These have been pretty much 24/7 since September 2005. I had a laryngoscopy done in August which confirmed LPR. Tried Nexium - too many side effects. But, not sure what to do now:mad:

Symtpoms started after a cold/flu nearly 2 years ago:

Sore Throat
Excessive mucous
Throat Clearing
Cough - sometime dry tickle, sometime relentless hacking
Hoarseness
PND
Ear Fullness
Gas/funny feeling comes up my throat almost like when a cow's cud comes up (sounds the same)

Was on double dose of Nexium but couldn't handle the sie effects. Some days are better than others. LIke sometimes I think I'm getting better and then bam it gets worse.

I wish it would go away, it's very disheartening.

Very rarely do I get hearburn. Not overweight. In fact it started after I had dieted down about 20 pounds.

so a bunch of you are saying you don't have much heartburn with LPR. i really don't know alot about LPR. i just have alot of acid reflux problems and everything i swallow makes it hurt and start up. i have the air in my esophagus feeling sometimes like the need to burp. i thought with the LPR there was heartburn. i guess everyone is different.

kellir... i just read one of your posts that i believe you started that was "where do you burn?" what you are going through sounds exactly like me. i will have an attack come on mainly it is at night (even though i sleep propped up) where my chest burns so bad and the feeling of needing to burp. everything you wrote sounded just like what i am going through. stress seems to make all this worse too. well after i just posted i saw that other post you wrote so i had to add this.

I NEVER had or have heartburn

The 2 times I had extreme symptoms were in conjunction with an upper respiratory infection...my symptoms both times included:

Throat clearing
Watery mouth
Lump in the throat sensation
Sore Throat
Tickle in the throat
Coughing
Excessive Mucous
Burning Throat
White/Yellow Tongue Coating
Bad Taste in Mouth
Jaw Pain
Dry Throat
Post Nasal Drip

HOWEVER...for the most part, I experience only these symptoms:

Somewhat dry throat in the morning
Throat clearing ocassionally
Minor congestion in the morning
White tongue coating

If I NEVER had heard of LPR I honestly would attribute most, if not all of these syymptoms to sinus or allergy problems.

I am still not convinced that LPR isn't the result of, or somehow tied into...sinus, allergy, and/or respiratory infections.

I have seen 2 ENT's so far...both diagnosed my condition as LPR based on the "minimal" reflux damage they saw on my Larynx.

I just had an Endoscopy...and all the Dr. was able to tell me after the procedure was that I had mild reflux (no hiatle hernea, no ulcer). I have to call the Office next week to get the results of my biopsy...so I will have many more questions for the Dr. at that time. Unfortunately after the Endoscopy I was still a little out of it...so I did not get the chance to ask the Dr. any of the questions I wanted to.

I, too, suffer from those same symptons as most of you have listed:

lump in throat
hoarseness
throat clearing
etc etc
I am on Nexium and Zyrtex as Nasonex for allergies. Symptoms are only in the morning now. But without meds-- they are there all day and really extreme. I have been dealing with this for about 4 years now and every test shows no problem. I was beginning to think this was in my "head" until I read these posts. I just keep taking the meds and hope no long term damage is being done.

I had an EGD and colonoscopy done last Wednesday and found out I do have LPR. (As I suspected from reading this board. Thanks to all those who educated me!)

My symptoms are the same as most who have already posted. My stomach and esophagus are both inflamed.

In addition to the usual symptoms, I have a severe burning sensation in the back of my nasal passages, as well as, the throat and foul tasting mouth. I find it necessary to sleep in my recliner some nights as the reflux seems impossible to control at this point.

It is as if I am having a full blown allergic reaction to my environment on most days . . . coughing , sneezing and a river nose! I have a horrible roaring in both ears with the reflux.

I seldom have heartburn or indigestion or burping.

I am on Nexium twice a day for the time being.

I have never had heartburn.

My main symptoms are a chronic dry cough and PND. (Previously, belching--though I haven't had a problem with this for the last year.)

Confirmed with PH probe. Endoscope showed nothing.

Since last April, Prevacid Solutabs 2x/day has helped.

In order of discomfort(annoyance) last 4 years

Constant lump in throat

When getting up every morning have to spit out a thick glob into sink. Sometimes slightly bloody. Sorry for 'TMI'

Throat clearing every 5 minutes or so. Seems like all the time.

Sinus thing like PND. Seems like its always there

Hoarsness later in day

Note: GP diag. chronic rhinitis in 2003. Went on allergists program. Didnt do anything to help.

Went to ENT for 18 months. 3 laryngo scopes.1 turbinate reduction(helps to breath through nose). PPI's 3 different times. Stopped all 3 times because of side effects.

Went to gastro now. did a endoscope on 1/23 waiting for biop. now. Reported I have mild hiatal hernia but I was drowsy so I didnt get to ask anything.

Symptoms in order of severity:

> Difficulty swallowing
> Pain when swallowing
> Bad taste in mouth

All three like clockwork every day: 9:00 AM, 2:00 PM, 7:00 PM. Goes away after eating.

> Bloating of stomach when I eat a small amount. No other stomach symptoms.

i recognize some of you from the other boards! This reflux loneliness!

my symptoms started as sore throat; breathing, allergy like symptoms, laryngeal spasms; I've had burning mouth, burning throat/nasal; night tickle in throat (recently it drives me nuts!) and a few bouts of serious heartburn...mostly throat symtoms though; been scoped by ENT who saw inflamation of larynx, nexium daily; but last visit showed improvemnt; endoscopy showed normal esophagus, duodenom...small hiatal hernia; to have bravo and manometry next week.

Hey Timbrado. Let us know how the bravo/manometry test goes. I just had one and the results from the manometry showed my muscles are a bit weak not allowing it to clear of food/liquidgs. The PPI im on seems to be taking care of the acid (from the ph test) but something else is causing burning. Doc put me on Librax along with Protonix so well see how that goes.

I am a 26 yr old fem and my symptoms have been

1. sore throat
2. tightness in throat
3. Pressure from the back of the neck / inner ear to the sides of the neck ( this is the most confusing) ------ is anyone else having this symptom, please write so..
4. Numbness and sensitivity in larynx area of throat.

i have been on protonix ( 2 a day) for a month now with some relief ... but symptom # 3 developed recently. I am continuing on this protocol and let you know if relieved of symptoms hopefully soon.

I also have many of the same symptoms everyone has listed. I've had reflux for 20 years or so (since I was about 20) and have been on many different OTC reflux meds on and off over the years to deal with the heartburn. I've been experiencing what sounds like LPR sypmtoms since this past Labor day. The worst for me has been the lump in the throat. Just not a normal sensation.

Other bothersome symptoms are the tight neck, ear fullness, on and off swollen glands (not sure if they are lymph or salivary...they tingle) accompanied by bad taste in mouth. I have a hiatal hernia (diagnosed by upper endo a few years ago) and seasonal allergies (PND). I've been trying to associate the throat lump feeling with times of day, eating patterns, types of food, etc. but can't seem to figure it out. I was scoped by an ENT a few months ago...nothing unusual. GP at Duke seems to think it is "A-typical reflux". I take that to mean LPR.

It would be great if these issues would go away as quickly as they had appeared but i'm not too hopeful given others' experiences. With work and kids though, not much time to dwell on it or do much more about it. Taking Aciphex 2x per day and 20mg Pepcid AC. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about so many others dealing with the same symptoms.

Forgot to mention, had a long course of Augmentin (3-4 weeks) before this all started and had about 4 more weeks of antibiotics last fall. I've read other posts that mentioned antibiotic use as well.

We all started going downhill after taking a bunch of antibiotics. It messes up our digestive system which then causes GERD. Question is how to get the digestive system back to normal. I'll never take antibiotics again.

The worst sympton for me at the moment is a running nose also becomes blocked at times.

Thanks for posting all your symptoms guys! My symptoms are
>feeling of lump in throat
>Gobs and gobs of mucus in throat
>Burning in stomache, rib area and sometimes chest.
>Red throat, kind of irritated at times
>Difficulty swallowing
>Non-stop sinus infection
>Pain in ribs, neck and arms
>Breathing problems
>Heart palpitations
>Heavy chest feeling and tightness
>Constant belching
What I would really love to get under control is my sinuses, its horrible and I know it goes right along with LPR because I never really had any sinus problems until it started. Also my mom has LPR and she has a non-stop sinus infection and she told me her sinuses had never been so bad until she got reflux so it definitley goes with LPR. I went to the doctor again and she gave me some antibiotics but Im not sure if I should take them. I think what most of us have in common is ANXIETY and anxiety causes acid reflux. I have anxiety, panic disorder etc and so does my mom.

I'm getting so discouraged from being sick all of the time! I have constant PND, a never-ending cough (that makes me throw up sometimes...and just about wet my pants others), a sore throat, and a constant need to clear my throat. I recently started a 6 to 8 week round of antibiotics and a daily dose of a generic brand of Nexium (my insurance wouldn't pay for the real thing!). I am missing work again tomorrow...missed one day last week to go to the doctor and 2 1/2 days the week before. I can't take much more. I tried explaining to the doctor how much these symptoms are affecting my quality of life...not sure he really understands. My greatest comfort at this point is finding these boards and knowing that I am not alone.

Hi board Buddies, i have posted on a few of the other threads and am hoping to find info from you if you can? I recently had a TT wich is the thyroid removed and i don't regret it at all because i had alot of symptoms but besides my increased heart rate the next to most annoying thing i had was a lump feeling in my throught when i swallow. Okay i thought it was from the enlarged thyroid but it's still here and it's so annoying, and i'm starting to wonder about acid reflux as i have alot of the same symptoms listed here as others but they also are alot alike a thyroid problem. Yes very confusing wait till i see the surgeon, hmm i'm sure he may be confused also, but i think he also specializes in ear nose and throught as well dah lol. My question is how is this diagnosed and what can i do to help relieve it possibly till i go for my receck in two weeks? My symtoms are :

feeling of lump in throat
>Gobs and gobs of mucus in throat
>Red throat, kind of irritated at times
>Difficulty swallowing
>Non-stop sinus infection

>Breathing problems

>Heart palpitations( now that on beta blockers for the thyroid no more palps)
>Heavy chest feeling and tightness
>Constant belching

hmm monkey, you sound like me. I have all of those symptoms. To diagnose acid reflux you would need to have an endoscopy where they stick the camera down your throat. To relieve it for now you could buy some prilosec at walmart, they sell it at other stores too. I take it and it helps quite a bit.
