Hi. I have Alopecia, and I have a few things to say, and a few questions.

a) I first had hairloss around May 2006.
b) The dermatologist confirmed it as Alopecia.
b) It's only in ONE spot on my head. Underneath all my hair, at the back of my head.

Okay, so.. some questions.

1) My dermatologist said he could give me a treatment.. who has gotten a treatment for Alopecia before?
2) Half of it grew back before, but now its all lost again. Will it ever ALL grow back?
3) Will it spread?
4) What CAUSES Alopecia?
5) I want to dye my hair. But will this make things worse?

Thanks. : (

Alopecia is genetic.
How is your parents hair.
Did they have hairloss?

Good actually. Even my grandparents. No balding, thinning, even graying is rare in my family. Its weird.

Do you think it could be something else then? :S

is your head itchy? if so it could be ring worms... alopecia means hair loss, and ring worms cause hair loss.

In response to question #4: Many medications can have hair loss as a side effect. Also, thyroid issues and low iron levels can cause it. Another thing, having enough protein in your diet is important for your hair.

my husband had it years ago and the doc gave him somes meds to take before he went to the tanning bed. the tanner helped him so much...........and his hair grew back and has never happened again. Stress is a big factor.

Sorry for the late replies.

@ Miyu - Somewhat, but the doctor said it wasnt. That was the first thing my mom asked. Its just patches of lost hair and redish bumps.. almost likes zits.. only not really.

@ kitty - okay, thank you. I'm booking a docs apt. next week.

@ flintrock - My mom thinks its stress. My life is only de-stressing now.. and very slowly mind you.

Thanks for posting everyone. D: Lets hope I can rant to the doc.
