View Full Version : Know anything about RSV?

Hi Ladies,

My four month old has had a cold for the past week or so. He seems his normal chipper self, except he still has this nasty cough (mucousy sounding). I took him to the doctor today, just to make sure he was okay and was surprised to find out he has RSV. They had me purchase a air pump like thing that gives him breathing treatments when needed. Of course he absolutely hates them, but I realize that it's beneficial, so I will continue to give them to him.

I am just so worried. I have seen that RSV commercial on t.v. like a million times. The doctor told me it could be a couple weeks before he's back to normal. I just wonder if I'm going to be anxiety ridden until then.

Has anyone had an infant that got RSV? Just wondering what to expect. I'm hoping this will be as bad as it gets.

RSV is a mess, especially for preemies. All kids get RSV at some point, some more severe than others. I would use the medication given and get a cool mist humidifier.

My DS#3 was a preemie. You can get A LOT of RSV info on preenie websites. Good luck, and I hope your little one feels better soon.

My son had RSV at 4 weeks which gave him pneumonia, and he was in the hospital for a couple of days. They said that everyone gets it, it's just very dangerous for preemies (my son was not a preemie). He got better on his own without medication, but it took a couple of weeks. It was kind of scary because he had trouble breathing due to the congestion, and he was so young. The commercial does scare you, but don't worry, they are taking care of it. Hope he is feeling better soon! :)

My little girl had this when she was 5 months. We just had a nebulizer for a couple of days and she was fine. A few months later we had a cold that ended up requiring a nebulizer, but we haven't had to have one since. I'm sure your little one will be fine.

My daughter had it when she was about 3 months old. We gave her the meds that were prescribed and breathing treatments. She was over it in about a week. She wasnt premie either. It was very scary. My daughter also has larangomalasia (throat condition) so her doc is saying that since she had the RSV and the larangomalasia that everytime she gets sick then she will need breathing treatments. Her sinuses draining down her throat makes it very difficult for her to breath with her throat being messed up. After about a week she was ok with the breathing treatments. She was over the RSV in a week but they still wanted us to give her the treatments for a couple more weeks. She is actually sick now and I have to call the doc in the morning to get her in.

Good luck with it.
