i was just wondering if nausea made your heartburn worse. i have started 2 new medicines this week plus had the flu and i have had alot of nausea from the medicines and the flu and my acid reflux seems to be worse. i have cut out caffeine, eating at night and all the "bad food". but when my stomach stays nauseated my heartburn seems to get worse. has this happened with anyone?

Yes...

I used to be always nauseated do to constant constipation due to the opiate pain pills I take for my my crushed spine.

It will make it a lot worse as the bile is actually trying to find an exit..!!

If it can't go down ...it will go up!

The nausea plus the stress from it causes more acid...it's a vicous cycle!

Hi

I can relate to this because I am having alot of nausea and I have reflux. Everything I eat or drink seems to just make the nausea worse. I am just having fluids until I see my dr on Monday. I hope things improve for you.

No matter what you eat or drink until you get some medicine that works for you it'll be like that. At one time the only thing it seem like I could eat was toast and crackers and I couldn't hardly drink nothing not ever water that didn't make me sick.

thank you chrisitine. water gives me heartburn too. i went to the dr a week ago and she put me on nexium 40 mg, which i was on otc prilosec before and it was not really helping. before i got on nexium everything i ate burned all the way down, and i was absolutely miserable. and at night sometimes it felt like a heart attack it hurt so bad. now i have been on nexium only a week and i feel so much better. i would definelty recommend it. i can eat more now and it does not bother me. it burns a little everyonce in awhile, but nothing like before. i was getting so tired of water, now i am able to drink other things. i think the nausea does just throws the reflux up.

Hi Everyone

I am taking domperidone and omeprazole and am finally feeling a little better, although the night is worse so I will find out tonight. I went to the doctor yesterday and found out I have thrush from the inhalers I take for asthma.
I am able to eat more food now but still having problems with swallowing.
I was on nexium before and it did not do much for me but maybe I should try it again. Thanks for the comments.

If you are drinking tap water and it causes problems, it could be the chemicals in the water. Try spring water or mineral water-it should be better.

also i don't know if this makes a difference but my dr. told me to take the nexium first thing in the morning and it would work better so i am and it is . she said it would cover me all day and it still cover me at night. before i was taking prilosec at night and it did not work as well. for me the 40 mg has made a big difference compared to the 20 mg otc. i guess everyone is different. i just hope it keeps working and does not just quit. trying to be positive.
