I was recently put on Prevacid after my U/S came back normal and have been somewhat better. Well, last night, I ate a little bit of spicy food and the "stomach flare up" occurred again and I was in extreme pain for about three hours and then I became itchy all over my body aterwards. Could this itchy feeling have anything to do with my stomach problems?

Thanks!

i cannot have spicy food; it reacts wth me and i would say, yes they are related to the point i think the itching is an allergic reaction.

But, also if you had a problem with the stomach (ulcer) i would say you need to avoid spicy stuff because it will just antagonize the problem and make it flare up again.

for those who wish to know about prevacid:

With prescription Prevacid NapraPAC, people with a history of gastric ulcer can continue treatment for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and reduce the risk of stomach ulcer from coming back. Your results may vary. Controlled studies lasted up to 12 weeks.

Tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney or fluid retention problems. Naprosyn should not be taken in late pregnancy. If you experience drowsiness or dizziness while taking Naprosyn, you should exercise caution when performing activities that require alertness.

The most frequently reported side effects of Naprosyn were constipation, heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, itching, skin eruptions, bruising, ringing in the ear, excess fluid in tissues, and shortness of breath.

Prevacid has a low occurrence of side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pain and nausea. Other serious stomach conditions may still exist.

Prevacid NapraPAC should only be used exactly as prescribed.

Please see the complete Prescribing Information and medication guide for Prevacid NapraPAC for more information and talk to your doctor.

Besides some kind of food or medicinal allergy, there are some abdominal conditions that might cause itching. You should ask your doctor about this. I read a health newsletter called intelihealth and found the following info you might find helpful:

General itchiness can result from the buildup of bile products or other waste products in the blood. Some abdominal conditions that can cause itching include:

Acute viral hepatitis

Cancer of the pancreas

Cirrhosis

Drug-induced hepatitis

Primary biliary cirrhosis

Kidney failure

ps...I have two 3-stripers and 2 stinkpots!
