Ok, here is what has been going on the last 10 weeks:

I came back from a flight with alot of sinus pressure. Went to the doctor, took a z-pack, it did nothing. I went to an ENT and he prescribed levaquine..WHich worked for most of the pressure...This week I had alot of green/yellow mucus discharge, and blood in my mucus as well, with a throat infection. I also feel pressure when I turn my head to either side, at the base of my neck and on the roof of my mouth...Is this still a sinus infection in your opinion? The last part about the pressure when I turn my head is concerning me the most. I have been dealing with this for the last ten weeks. I went back to my family doctor this week and she gave me biaxin for two weeks. What do you think i should do?

Yes. It sounds like you have an impacted sinus infection.. i.e. a sinus infection that has filled all of your sinuses with goo. I have had many of them and two weeks of anti-biotics won't cut it. You will need a minimum of 21 - 28 days of anti-biotics. Z-paks not to good for sinus infections, Levaquin great.. but now that you have stoppped the bacteria will have built a resistance to it. If you are taking biaxin now it is kin to the Z-pack antibiotic and the infection may be resistant to it, but with another two to three weeks it may cure it.

Over all 'cillans and cephalosporins are the best for clearing sinus infections. So if you are not taking any antibiotics now and are not allergic to penicillan. Go back to the MD or an ENT and request a minimum of 28 days of Cephzil or Ceclor. These are the best at taking out sinus infections due to my 17 odd years of chronic sinusitus experience. Even if you feel better after 14 days of treatment keep taking the anti-biotics the back and ethnoid sinuses may be pack with in fection too.. these do not give you the pressure symptoms that the maxillary and frontal sinuses do.. but they will harbor infection and allow it to repopulate stronger and more resistant than before..

Sincerely,
MG
