View Full Version : Thought I would share a positive experience

I am now 10 days post Nissen Fundoplication surgery, and doing well. I had read so many negative stories about people who regreted the surgery, and even though that may be their experience, I wanted to put this out as a positive one. I had the surgery on a Thursday morning, and was supposed to stay in the hospital until that Monday, but did so well that I got to come home on Sunday. I started clear liquids the Saturday after the surgery, and was only on that 24 hours, and then moved to a full liquid diet. Then as of today, my dr told me I could go back to my normal diet already. And outside of feeling a little sick to my stomach on and off, I did well with real food today. I had acid reflux so badly that it had come up and burnt my vocal cords, plus I had a hiatal hernia, so I had to have the surgery since meds failed to help. Pain wise it wasn't too bad. I was sore of course, but tolerable. So to anyone out there thinking about this surgery, I would recommend it, but only after you have tried other things, like the meds, since it is a major surgery. Again, just thought I would share my story!

It's good to hear that your surgery was successful and your doing so well. During those days after your surgery and before you could have clear liquids what did you do for nutrition?

They had me hooked up to an iv while I wasn't allowed to eat. Then I was able to have Jello (yuck) and beef broth (yuck again) when they let me start eating again. But it's amazing how good things you normally don't like can taste when it's your only option!!!
