My husband is only 39. He told me tonight that he has had a troubling symptom for almost 2 months that he feels like he needs to have checked out. He hasn't even hinted at a problem before now...grrrrr:mad: . He tells me that for the past several weeks when he strains during defecation that a small amount of seminal fluid comes out. He has had a chronic sinus infection and is just now getting over a severe cold. Could this issue be caused by the other infections he has had or is this a sign of something worse? He says there's no pain or urgency when he urinates...it's just this thing that happens when he poops, and it's something that has never happened before.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
This sounds normal to me. The rectum is very close to the prostate and seminal vessicles, and there is a lot of overlap in the muscle group that operates both systems. It is normal that pressure from the bowel movement can also force out some semen. Factors that would influence this include the volume and degree of difficulty in passing the feces, as well as how much semen has built up since the last ejaculation. He probably just hasn't noticed this before, or a change in bowel habits or frequency of sex has produced a change. By all means he should get it checked out since there is always a possibility of some type of infection and the fluid is something other than semen. It will give both of you peace of mind. But this doesn't sound like something really serious. After he has been to the doctor, post the results for the education of everyone else.
