Hello~ My sister is scheduled to get her port out next week. She was curious as to what the procedure is to remove it. Local or is she put completely out?
She didn't think to ask the dr....

Thanks!

hi jomol,
i had mine removed after it collapsed the vein...i was put under general anesthesia due to the circumstances..i have spoken with others and they have told me their ports were removed in the surgeons office under local anesthesia without any problems.
i have been cancer free for 4 years this month and doing well.
i hope that your sister is doing well also..i am sure having the port out will be a happy occasion for her, it was a constant reminder to me of the cancer and of the battle that i had endured..
my best wishes to her..and a round of applause to you for being such a great sister!
take care.

Thank you so much for your post. I'm so happy to hear you are doing well after 4 years. This was all such a shock to our family, it's great there are people on this board to talk to for support. I guess some people keep the ports in for a year after their last treatments, but she just can't take it anymore. I'm praying you both STAY cancer free. Thanks again~
