hi,
i'm on two weeks post tonsillectomy today.
feeling sooooooo much better, almost normal.
finally eating semi normal food. just taking it very slow and staying away from scratchy things.
however, when i do eat, like tonight for dinner, i had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and cooked carrots.

and after i ate i peeked at my throat. and in one of the holes where my tonsils used to be , was a big chunk of the food stuck in there.

i drank a whole water bottle during dinner, in between bites, then i had to drink another half bottle to try and dislodge the food! how annoying .

one of the main reasons i got my tonsils out was because i had cryptic tonsils and food was always getting stuck in them..

i was wondering how long will this last, or will i always get food stuck in these new holes?
thanks

Yeah, I had that problem, too. At the time it was not funny at all, but my boyfriend and I laugh about it now. I had tried eating some scrambled eggs a couple of days after the surgery because I wanted some protein. So I was eating them and they were pretty good, but all the sudden I could tell something was up. I checked a mirror, and sure enough, I got some scrambled egg stuck back there. It took about 2 days to dislodge it with a combination of drinking a lot of water and using my tongue to coax it out. It was not easy, believe me but it finally came out! And then it happened again a couple of days later!

I think it was about a month later when things seemed to be back to normal. I don't remember exactly because it was last year and I actually feel like I might have blocked out some of it because of how much pain I was in, but a month sounds about right.

I basically ate very slowly and followed each bite of food with a swallow of water. Helped keep things clean. Don't remember how long it took before I didn't have to worry about that anymore, or how long it took before I had to stop worrying about my drink shooting out of my nose. Four weeks after my tonsilectomy, I had a luncheon meeting at work. Pizza. And I basically took tiny little bites, chewed a zillion times and had sips of water.

Hello,

Soon to be four months post operation for me. I still have food sticking issues, but my tonsil pockets were and still are huge. I don't have problems as long as I drink lots of water with my meals and chew everything really fine.

Water shooting out of the nose.. well that is about over for me. But this weekend my son brought me the Rota Virus. Needless to say stomach ills proved that nasal regurgitation is still possible for us both at this time. I must say, "OUCH!". However on an every day basis we have been good. Only the Flu and Rota virus have hit us, we have been bacterial infection free.

Sincerely,
MG
