I am 42 years old. I have had polycystic kidneys since I was 18 years old. I am experiencing symptoms that I believe are related to my disease. Unexplained headaches that sometimes last days and lower backaches. Does anyone else experience these symptoms?

Are you currently being monitored at all by either your family doc or a nephrologist?i too have PKD,found out when i was forty when our son became deathly ill because of liver failure that was a secondary condition caused by a mutation of the PKD gene.none of us even new we were even sick til my son started vomiting blood one day at school.scarey stuff.we didn't even know this ran in our family then my son and me and also my sister were found to have the polycysts on both kidneys and the liver.my sons liver was on its last legs by that time.couldn't believe it.
the headaches could be stemming from kidney problems along with the high BPs that will eventually come with the deterioration of the kidneys.low back and mid back pain are also strong symptoms.it kind of depends on just how large your kidneys actually are and what they may be pressing up against.my kidneys are now about three times the normal size and have actually shifted out from their normal back position and into the abdominal area now,so they are both in the front.when was your last ultrasound done?marcia

I am being monitored by my doctor just through my blood work. I do have high BP. Been on medicine for about 3 years now. I had to have some stomach surgery a few years ago and had to go through alot of tests and they saw my kidneys then. They said they are about twice their size. It just seems like all the symptoms are starting, headaches, anemia, high bp, backaches, sideaches. But my blood work seems to be fine.
