Hey all,

So now Im three weeks late, with a negative blood test. I have a HORRIBLE cold. Is it safe to assume that Im definitly not pregnant, and I can take some cold medicine? I was holding out hope for a while that maybe my HcG levels werent rising quickly, but three weeks and BFN is surely negative right? It would be ok to take cold medicine?

It isn't usual to get a false negative blood test... but I guess it would depend on when it was done. It isn't unheard of - it's just rare.

If it was done recently and you're 3 weeks late - I'd say trust the blood test -and take the cold meds. The blood test can pick up smaller amounts of the hormone than hpts can... they can usually detect at like 6 dpo where hpts are 12-15 dpo. I read that doing a search on hpt's - a consumer reports site where they test and post the results...

If you are pregnant and do have a cold, you should at least take Acetaminophen/ Tylenol to bring down a fever if you have one, becuase that could be harmfull in a pregnancy (don't take asprin or ibuprofen). There are several cold medicines that are safe, you can do a seach and google cold medicine durring pregnacy to pull up a list of safe meds. I think it would be better to feel better.
