My blood sugars are quite unstable, A1c is 8 and has been for the last 1½ years. My A1c druing the honeymoon period was 6.3 (which was about three months after I had been in the hospital and gotten the diagnosis of T1 diabetes), and since then it has only gotten worse, first to 7.5 then 8. I have highly interrupting dawn phenomenon, and have a hard time keeping my bloodsugars under 10 mmol/L for more than 3 hours. I'm 17 years old and quite busy in collage at the moment (and will be for the next 3 years).
My question is; how many years is the typical to get complications from diabetes? I have noticed my vision decreasing slightly lately, I was given weak reading glasses before I was diagnosed (the magnification is +0,75 on the right eye and +0,50 on the left eye), but I didn't really need them at the time, but now I need them more than I did before. Can this be from the diabetes? (got diagnosed 17 may 2004).
My doctor said the diabetes would become easier to control when I am about 20 years old as the growth hormones will have decreased then. I am following the advise given by my dietician, but I just can't seem to keep my sugars stable. Do you know of any tips etc. that has helped for you?
I am on Levemir (10 "clicks" at 7 am and 14 "clicks" at 7 pm; using the flexpens) and I take NovoRapid for meals (almost always about 20 "clicks" to every big meal). Don't know what the "clicks" on the flexpens are called in English :p
