At what point would you committ your loved one to a hospital for treatment?

Where I live you cannot have someone committed unless they are a danger to themself or others. What is happening in your case?

I'm in Marshmellow's shoes but only to a higher degree. My pdoc couldn't even get me admitted and I was extremely hazardous and harmful to myself (but not others), psychotic, hallucinating, and could not think straight to walk the line for an alcohol test. It was awful- and even another social worker and the tdoc were not able to get me admitted.
Every situation is different. Call the ER and speak with the psych doctor on hand and ask what they recommend. They will be in the best position to help you.
Hang in there. I am sorry you are going through this. Hope things turn around.

Coffeegirl's advice is the best. Enlist the pdoc and see if s/he can help. Every state is different and insurance plays a role, too. In NJ, you have to be threatening suicide to be committed. I could not believe when my son was going through some horrible times that I could not send him in-patient unless he told them he was going to kill himself! It's ridiculous!
Hopefully, your husband's pdoc can help you.
I know how scary this is. Stay strong! You are doing the right thing!

Dear Marshmallow,
I'm sorry. I did not mean to offend you. I just meant that the advice to call the pdoc sounded like good advice.
My apologies if I hurt you in any way. It certainly was not intentional.

Hey marshmellow,
Hey that sounds good right now a marshmellow! Ha! anyways i would of said the same thing you did because thats how i was admitted years ago. I was a danger to myself and others. Sometimes i feel ignored or what i say is stupid but i dont think anyone means anything by it,it just seems that way.
I think they just are thinking about what there going to say and they dont pay attention . Anyway i just wanted to tell you that and shut my mouth before i get myself into trouble again. Big Hug TEE TEE

Sorry, see even those of us without bp can be touchy. LOL It is just that I was never heard by my husband and made me sensitive. I felt silly about sending that message after I did.

Thank you for your help and support through this. All of you are a great help. We've committed her a couple times before, but it was so long ago I don't remember the steps we took to do it.
