My doctor diagnosed me with GERD because of a persistent cough and increasingly frequent heartburn. She told me to try Prilosec OTC, which I did for about a week. One day at work I had such a dizzy spell I thought I was going to pass out. It took hours to go away. I called my doctor and she prescribed Prevacid 30mg once a day. I'm only on my third day and am already having dizzy spells and fatigue, a slightly runny nose and what feels like post-nasal drip.
If I call my doctor again, what else could I try without so many side effects? I was thinking of trying to continue the Prevacid, but only 15mg a day. Thanks.

After taking Prevacid for 2 years and now a study shows that it can cause problems with our bones. I stopped taking Prevacid on Dec. 26,2006 and did have some repercussions from stopping. Seemed like acid really got worse. After about 2 weeks I was doing better and then had to take pain medication after surgery and it really did a number on my stomach. I was taking Rolaids and Tums but they did not really stop the problem.
My pharmacist suggested I try Mylanta Liquid. I used Mylanta Liquid Regular during the day and at bedtime and it helped a lot. I then was well enough to stop the daytime and just used 2 teaspoon Mylanta Extra Strength Liquid at bedtime and I do not wake up in the morning with a burning stomach. Failed to take at bedtime one night and did very well. Maybe in a few weeks I will be able to stop the Mylanta.
You may want to give Mylanta Extra Strength Liquid a try and see if it will work for you.
