View Full Version : Question About Supplements?

Haven't been on for a couple months but need some advice now. Went off Zocor 11/06/06 (severe muscle problems) & had lipid profile done 12/06/06.

Results:
TC 195
HDL 78
LDL 103
Tri 119 (highest ever)

New doctor put me on Zetia a month ago as my LDL always goes back up no matter what after stopping statins. Haven't experienced any bad symptoms except nausea after eating something "not so healthy".
Anyway I'm thinking with my current supply of supplements maybe I should stop Zetia. Here's what I take daily:

Aspirin 81mg.
COQ10 150mg
Folic Acid 800mg
B6 100mg
B12 250 mg
Fish Oil 2000 mg
Multi 1 a day vitamin
Garlique
Calcium
Magnesium
Glass of red wine (sometimes 2) before dinner. (I think this is great for my HDL but thinking really bad for my LDL)
Throughout the day....lots of OJ and Green Tea.

Any thoughts as to "is this enough"? Should I add something else?
Thanks for reading.

One thing I see missing is lots of fiber in some form--oat bran, metamusil, etc., and possible plant sterols or stanols.

Oh I eat plenty of fiber ... Healthy Heart cereal...lots of flaxseed and oat bran added to it, lots of blueberries and fruit.

I wouldn't take the zetia. Even if you believe in cholesterol numbers, yours shows no reason for medication. Also the zetia will cause some of the vital nutrients that you ingest and take as supplements to not be absorbed. This includes the Coq10.

Goldenboys,

With low numbers like you have, why are you considering medication at all?

If I had your lipid profile, I'd be dancing in the streets... Your HDL is excellent, as are your Total/HDL and LDL/HDL ratios. All your numbers seem fine to me. And don't worry about your triglycerides - they are quite good.

Keep up the supplements you're taking - you're doing fine.

You can take cinnamon for the tri numbers. I either make sure I eat it on my oatmeal every day or take the capsule form I buy in the supplement section of my favorite store.
