my grandfather got a call from his doctor today and said that he needs to see a urologist because his PSA levels were high, I am not sure if that was his exact words. But i know it has something to do with PSA.I didnt question my grandfather too much as he likes to keep to himself. But i am a little worried. He is 78,has high blood pressure, other then that he is in good health,You wouldnt think he was 78 by the way he gets around and he is just the world to me.So what are the chances that this is prostate cancer? What can he expect when he goes to the urologist?

Any input would really be greatly appreciated!!!!

One would need full details to be able to make any logical comment.
Many things can cause elevated PSA, for example more PSA is produced by an enlarged prostate which happens with age.
To keep this in perspective, most men over 60 have PC cells in their body, although in majority of cases this does not necessarily ever cause them any major clinical problems.

PC is a very complicated subject, so to be able to help, you will need to find out more details, do research, suggest you help him with his situation, and offer to go with him for his consultation.
It might take him some time to come to terms with his situation, and the notion that he can do with your help, but at some point he will warm to the concept, and appreciate your concern.

There are several good books on the subject of PC,

John

I agree that it would be a good idea to have someone go along who can keep track of all the information given. Also, from now forward, get and keep copies of all tests, etc given. If it ends up being Pca, all of this info will prove valuable in the future.

Good luck and keep us posted.
