I quit taking 10mg of Lipitor on Dec. 1st. My doctor called and said my LDL is up to 172. I heard cholesterol goes up when you quit but that seems awfully high. Is the body making up for the cholesterol lost while on Lipitor for 9 months?
A friend recommended that I take Policosanol since I don't want to go back on statins. The side effects were overwhelming for me. Muscle aches and pains, light headiness, and a general feeling of being 20 years older than 63.
Has anyone here taken this supplement? What were your results? Where do you go to buy it?
Thank you

You want to purchase a Cholesterol Lowering Formula that contains Policosanol. I remember seeing one in our local store that had a least 20 ingredients including Policosanol. Visit a Health Store and ask for it. You'll have many different brands to choose from. Give it at least 6 months and get retested.

homeboy,
Save your money. Policosanol is pretty much worthless in cholesterol control.
You will have better results with niacin or even alcohol.
When you stop taking a statin drug like Lipitor, your LDL will usually return to close to the level it was at before you started taking the drug.

policosonal is known to stop the production of foam cells. These are the type that cause coronary artery disease. Regardless of whether it helps with you cholesterol is immaterial...the foam cells are the most important.

I took policosonal for a year and it did nothing for me. My husband also took it and did not have results.

I am trying policosanol right now and will report the results in another month.
Just because certain people get negative or no results from it does not mean that Homeboy will also get the same. Homeboy make sure that the policosanol you purchase is derived from "sugar cane wax" and not the fakes out there that are made from rice bran, bee's wax and other fillers. Sugar cane wax is the key to positive results. I found the company "NOW" who manufactures vitamin and herbal supplements to be made from sugar cane wax and also carries the GMP seal (good manufacturing practices).

Research natural ways on the internet, there are natural supplements you can take that are equal to a 20mg of lipitor ....I think
Foods that help lower it are
Oatmeal
walnuts
almonds
cinnamon
red wine (1 galss per day, not the whole bottle :dizzy: )
Maybe someone else can add to this list.
I didn't get mine tested until I was off of them for 5 to 6 months and while the doctor thinks it came out high, I think I will trust my body and how it feels over the numbers that someone else decides is right for me. 162 TC and I was having a ton of problems.. 253TC and I am NORMAL again and feeling great!
