Just wanted to see if anyone had any input on how long it took them to get their backpay and monthly benefit SSDI checks after they won at the ALJ hearing. This hopefully short wait I believe will be worse than waiting the for the hearing. So close but still feels so far away. It's taking all I've got to manage what little to nothing $$$ we have left. I'm very impatient right now...if we don't get something soon we'll lose the car. Inspection, tags and insurance are all due by the end of the month.

Hi neighbor!

If Pa is like NJ.............

If you elected direct deposit at the time you *initially* filed for SSDI, then I suggest that you start checking your bank statements and/or calling
. You will not be notified when SS deposits your $$$$$.

I received mine 2 weeks after my hearing. I had called my bank to check on something & was floored when the *automated* voice told me my balance.
My cat had to lick me off the floor. :D

I received the *paperwork* approximately 1 1/2 months later after the hearing.

Yeah, if you get direct deposit it don't take no time once you get your decision and then I receive the notice telling me how much I would get. Then a week later I done the same thing I called the bank and it was there, I couldn't believe it . I called back several times and called the bank and talked to a teller to be sure I wasn't hallucating.

Depends on his birthday, like my birthday is the 10 so I receive my check on the second wednesday of each month. So this month I will receive mine on the 14 which I have direct deposit. If you a pamphlet with his decision it should tell you or you can go to the social security website and it will tell you but I know it's now based on you birthday so if it was say between the 1-5 day of the month he would receive it on the first wednesday.

Wow-Wee.

GOOD for You!
Glad to hear there is real Justice out there. Thanks for sharing. That actually gave me hope...that is, that my bills won't kill me in the end. It's hard to imagine my financial future in the physical state that I am in right now...ya know?

Alrighty....just have to get thru all the paperwork. Hey, what if one of your doctors does not respond to their survery request????

Hey, what if one of your doctors does not respond to their survery request????
babs17, make sure every doctor you go to are aware that you are attempting to apply & secure Social Security Disability Benefits. Most if not all are fully aware of all the forms they will need to fill out from them.
Any that do not cooperate, you may need to change doctors. The sooner you find out which ones are not cooperating the better!

It happened to me in the beginning of my claim. I got a phone call from the SS claims rep that one of my doctors was not cooperating.
I dropped that doctor, took my records from their office, took my hard earned $$$ elseware & gave it to a doctor who cooperated fully!!! :D

Keep in *phone* contact w/your SS claims rep every 30-60 days if you are NOT represented by an attorney.

Thanks guys for the responses...gives us real hope. My Hubby chose direct deposit so I'd planned on doing the phone check with the bank. Just wanted to see approx time frame so I knew when to really start worrying.
We won't have cats to lick us but the little doggie's will wonder why we are going crazy when it hits the bank. God it will be soooooo nice to see $$,$$$.$$ in the bank instead of .$$. Just thinking about it is a big WOW. I know there will be all kinds of things that will have to be taken care of with all the extra help we have been getting from the state and such. Luckily my hubby didn't get any $$$$ from any state agency so we won't have to worry about back payments being held or owed. I'm getting Medicaid reimbursement for my Medicare premiums so hopefully that won't hold up his money.

Wow Mary what state do you reside in. Sounds like you waited awhile after your hearing for your paperwork on your fully favorable decision.

How is the back pay calculated ? I know my benefit amount but when they called and told me I was approved for SSDI, they asked many questions about what I was paid on short term disability and whether or not I was through the state or a private short term disability through my company. My question is just a general curiosity about how back pay is determined.
Any insight is appreciated.
