Hi everyone,
I have had tinnitus for many years in both ears. They have gotten even louder recently due to my meds. Has anyone ever had the noise go away? sometimes it drives me nutty! especially when i try to sleep.
any remedies out there?
Oh...to hear silence again!!

Hi, I'm new here, just joined. Is it a ringing in your ears? I have had the ringing for about a year now and it is about to drive me crazy! I also take a lot of meds because I am a transplant patient(kidney/pancrease) for about 5 years now.

Hi thull001..I have only just found these boards a few weeks ago myself and have asked a few health questions and have found that people are so kind and willing to share their experiences with all.
Yes it is ringing in the ears..I have no idea how I got it, I kind of think that it started after I hit my head on a gate a number of years ago, but oh its awful sometimes.
Do you have it in one or both ears,? mine is in both usually louder in my left.
Its very difficult to be in a room full of people talking, because I usually cant hear anything, and sleeping is the worst.
I am so sorry that you had to go through a transplant..are you okay now?
That must have been a very tough time for you.
I am a cancer survivor of four years, had a bit of a hard time myself.

Hello cjammom,
I always have the ringing in my left ear and sometimes, mostlyt in the evenings in my right also. It just started one day about a year ago and hasn't stopped. My doctor has run a lot of diffrent test but hasn't found out why it is ringing yet. If he does find out what is causing it I will let you know. I was a diabetic for 26 years and was on the transplant list for 5 years. I was taking dialysis for 2 years and was in pretty bad shape. The doctors told me that I probably wouldn't live to see Christmas in August of 2002, Then transplant called me in october and I finally got a kidney/pancrease transplant and here I am. I have had my share of complications but I'm glad to be alive and able to see my kids grow up. After my transplant I steped down off a step ladder from changing a light bulb and my left leg just collasped on me. I broke it in 9 diffrent places. The doctors were amazed. they told me that it was due to osteoporosis caused by many years of having diabetes. I've got an artificial leg now, I am trying to learn how to walk with it but it's not easy. Sorry to here about the cancer, I hope you are doing better now.

I suspect that the next time you hear silence will be in that brief interval bewtween the time when your tinnitus stops and you hear St. Peter welcome you.
I've had tinnitus for many years. It varies. Sometimes bad and sometimes really bad.
Some meds do make matters worse but there doesn't seem to be any good correlation between what does what to whom. And, while research offers some hope, at present no meds actually help very much, if at all.
Being careful about exposure to noise, I know for sure, is very important. I carry foam earplugs wherever I go and even with then I don't expose myself to live sporting events, popular music concerts, wedding receptions, crowded restaurants. etc.
You might also consider a thorough evaluation of your hearing. If you have loss at high or low frequencies you'll have a tendency to crank up the volume on your TV or radio to compensate.
For sleeping you might try a white noise generator.

thull001-let me say that you are amazzzzzing! I do so admire people who can rise above tough situations that come their way, and you sure have had your fair share..Being able to watch the kids grow up, boy that has surely taken me very far too in my health battles..so glad I am a part of their lives. I wish you good luck with that new leg..you be careful now!
biggermac-you gave me a good laugh for the day..I have often thought that at least when I die I will have some peace and quiet..I do hope there aren't any loud concerts where I plan on going!
You are right, I do need to go back and have my hearing evaluted again. the last time I went which was years ago I did have some loss in the left ear, I am sure it is worse now..I have just been so busy with other health conditions. Have you used the white noise generator? Has it worked for you?
thanks so much for your replies
Heres hoping for more pleasant noises in our ears!

Hello cjommom,
Thanks alot! I really enjoy this web site, it sure does help alot to talk to others with the same conditions. (and I have a lot of diffrent threads to visit) I figure that if I was supposed to die God would have already taken me. I'm still here for some reason, just havn't figured out why yet, but I am enjoying it while I can. Hope everything goes well for you. Been nice talking with you, take care.

Just wanted to let you know that I read a post on TMJ and one of the side effects listed was ringing in the ears! I never put the two together, I have TMJ it developed after I had whiplash from a car accident, and seems to come back when I am under alot of stress. So that might be the answer to my problems, I am going to speak with my dentist and see if I can get a new mouth guard which helps take pressure off the jaw and ears. Well thought I would pass this info on maybe it can help you as well.
take care!, been nice talking to you as well.

Get lipoflavonoid at a local cvs and it takes six months for best results. It is an over the counter medicine that has nothing but vitamines. All my family memebers who had it took it and it went away trust me.

WOW thanks so much for the tip. I am on quite a bit of meds right now but I will speak to my Dr. and ask if I can add that. It would be a wonderful thing if it works. Thanks for sharing the info!
