Roy47 02-10-2007, 02:04 PM I just want to thank all of the people that have given me information and have helped me in so many ways.
I can not say that having to go off all of the pain medecine has been one of the most enjoyable experience. But I guess it is just one more little inconviences that we go through. IF this is what it takes to get better it has been a small price to pay.
I am totaly comfortable with the hospital that I will be staying in at the Orhtopedic Hospital in Omaha. It doesn't look a hospital when I went to the front desk and got the pre scrub soap that I have to use Sunday evening with the help of the wife. In the front area not a problem; the back area would be hard to do. Then again when I wake up and it is off to the hospital by 0530 in the am and the surgery is scheduled for 0700 am.
The surgery is S1-L! and L4 - L5; I cannot wait; mnay people post of being nervous prior. For some reason I do not have that in my mind, it is full speed ahead and lets get this done so that I can move on to the next challenge ahead in life. I
I want to thank Tammy and Carol and Sheri 42; who has made this so much easier and haelped my confidence in the Nebraska Spine Center Doctors. She seems to be doing great and I am sure that I will keep the tradation up. "GO Huskers" LOL, Thanks for sharing your concerns and taking the time to reply when it was perhaps not the easiest thing to do.
I want to thank all and each that have replied to me with all of the questions that I have raised at this site.
I will be busy nedt week and will let ya all know how things are going during the recovery phase.
You all are the best of the best

Roy47 02-16-2007, 08:09 PM Yes it it true,
I got home yesterday morning. The surgery went fine. they say it is the hardwest surgery to come back from.
I was a little sick after the surgery during the night, actruallly I was throwing up blood and lots of it. After that things went well. I had a hard time getting rid of the hick ups but that is over now as well.
It is nice to be home and I am currently takeing insluin and it is checked three times a day and once before nighty night time.
I had no idea what it was going to be like, this one hurts that is all that I can say, the surgeon said that I did well and I no longer have any of the pains that I once had. To think that I jhad to go through al of the past to feel like this. "IT makeks no sensce to me at all..
More later gots to go...

Roy47 02-24-2007, 02:27 PM Hello all,
Thanks for all of the thoughts things are going very well. The pain is slowly going away and I do alot of walking around the house.
I cannot wait for spring. WE are currently in preperation for 12 plus inches of snow. Most of the snow was gone. The weather guys/ gals call for at lest the 12 some less it all depends on what staiton you watch.
This will slow me down on getting out side. I am starting to get cabin fever so to speak and have not really been outside since I got home.
Every one on this board is such great in the support area. I cannot wait each day to see what is going on with all of the people that are going through challenges and how we all deal with them in different ways.
Once again thanks,
 Roy 47
123dietdrpepper 02-24-2007, 04:30 PM Roy - Glad to hear that you are doing better. I am pulling for you. Now that it is supposed to snow remember to stay put inside no matter how much cabin fever you have.
Take care and keep us posted!!
Roy47 02-24-2007, 06:46 PM mrs hyper,
I do not have any knowledge of the disco - gram process or procedure. It is probaly one of the few tests that I have not had the experience with enjoying. I guess that I have not had an MRA yet at this point.
I wish that I could be more helpfull in this question that you have asked me.
Roy47:wave:
Roy47 02-24-2007, 06:59 PM To the un official experts. LOL
Here is a questin that I have been looking for a answer to that I have not seen asked or answered up to this point.
Her is the question: A couple of times I have awaekened it the middle of the night to find that I am drencehd in sweat from the head down to the lower chest area. Is this part of the body healing as I sleep and just happen to wake up at this time for what ever reason.
I wake up many times of the night to go to the bathroom as I am constantly drinking water almost all of the time. IT seems that I can not get enough water to drink.
Is this something to do with diabetes? I very rarley take any inslulin and it seems not to be during the times that I do give myself 4 units at the most.
As the average some times is as low as 76 I check it every 5 hours most of the time untill it is time to go to sleep. Which is usually around the 1000 oclock range.
Should I call and ask my Spine Surgeon about it or is it not a big deal?
I have to call him when medications run low. I have called him to refill a hydroodine perscription last week and did not think to ask his nurse then. When they called last week I did not think to ask his nurse that question when she asked how things were going and did the stictches show any signs of being infected or anthing like that. It was a call that shows that they are concerned and reminded me to walk a little more each day.
Thnks again.

Justoneofus 02-24-2007, 07:26 PM Well your spine surgery is not likely the cause, but either your diabetes OR the medications or combo meds you are taking.
Did you have the sweats when taking the insulin before the surgery? If not, this might be a question for whoever is treating you for the diabetes rather than the spine surgeon.
I know that I had some meds before that would cause me to sweat at times.
Glad to hear you are doing well! Hang in there.. the weather will break soon and spring will be in the air!

BlueAtlas 02-25-2007, 09:19 AM Her is the question: A couple of times I have awaekened it the middle of the night to find that I am drencehd in sweat from the head down to the lower chest area. Is this part of the body healing as I sleep and just happen to wake up at this time for what ever reason.

Hi Roy,
I don't know about the sweating. I had some sweating at night, but I attributed it to the unbreathing satin sheets and pj's. That probably wasn't what it was from, but it wasn't a big bother so I didn't pursue it.
The thirst, though, and getting up often at night to use the bathroom, are big red flags for diabetes. Those were the tip-offs for us when my son was diagnosed. If you're still experiencing those, I would think your diabetes is not well enough controlled. Your spine doctor would not be the one to handle that. Either your family doctor, depending on how much experience he has with it, or an endocrinologist would handle that. Your spine doctor might want to be aware of it, but that's definitely not his area of expertise. You might want to test more often for a day or two, also, just to see if you're spiking a lot in between and just not knowing it.
Diabetes has lots of side effects and dire consequences if it's not well-controlled, so you don't want to mess around with this. If I were you, I'd be on the phone first thing Monday morning to talk to the doc.
Wishing you the best,
Emily
