After I've been doing so well and now this!:blob_fire And I dont think this is a flare up.
My old sciatica is BACK and with WORSE THAN EVER before! :dizzy: :dizzy: I can barely walk! My feet are tingling, burning, aching. It's crawling across my lower back and into my behind again and down the back of my right leg, into the calf, ankle. Except this time I have nerve pain to add to it and my feet are half asleep and ache. Im taking my meds.. but not much help Im afraid and using my bag of tricks isn't working either. NUTS!!!
This started 3 or 4 nights ago doing my exercises that I do, which is only stretching really and most of my work is upper body also. I felt like I had overdone it a tad and would be sore, but the next morning I felt like I was starting to have a flare up.
Well, I've respected this until now, and today.. I am miserable! I have not felt like this since before my surgery 10months ago! I am upset to say the least, not to mention in a great deal of pain. CRAP!!! (and all the other 4 letter metaphors I cant type here)!!!:p
Well, I DO already have an appointment with my surgeon scheduled for this coming week (thank god), and hopefully he can schedule me for a new MRI and give me some roids to help temporarily.
I also will HAVE to switch docs, as my current surgeon is out of my insurance network and I am STILL paying for the last surgery with him. I found a new surgeon that is in my network about an hour from my home and he is a spine surgeon with fellowship and all, and is from John Hopkins. I am calling this guy Monday morning, first thing!
Sorry to unload here.. but I am just so distraught right now (as I drop many tears). I was doing so well.. so well. I have to stay alert, I just started back to school and it's BIOCHEMISTRY/PHSYIO/ANATOMY! Yikes!!! God, I hope this settles down. I also have family from Europe coming beginning at end of March through Mid May! <<<<<<<<SCREAM>>>>>>>>>!!!
I dont know if that helped or not??
Well thanks for letting me vent. I feel absolutely helpless right now.

Tammy,
I am so sorry that this is happening to you!! Darn it (really mean the d word). I pray that everything will be okay and it's just the muscles being pissed off.
I remember way back, thinking, but with no confirmation of fusing, that I was doing good after surgery. Then I remember when all of that burning, tingling, numbness ect, all came back too. Now after two years, I find out that I'm not fused in my back. I know that you can't take the Neurontin or Lyrica right? I sure hope that they can give you something for the muscles and nerves to calm down. Hopefully this new dr. will be great and get you the mri asap, and get to whats going on.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you Tammy, and I really hope your fusion and all are good!!

Tammy
I am so sorry you are feeling so badly. Hopefully you can get an appointment real fast. Pain does not seem to care what we have going on in our life. An gosh darn it you just got your life back.
Don't hesitate to go to the ER if the pain gets worse. They maybe can give you a shot or something to interrupt the pain and get the steriods started. I sure hope that everything with the surgery is ok and maybe this is just a bad bad flare up.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep up posted. Hope you can get a little rest.

Tammy, I just posted a similar post. I'm 5 months out. The surgeon, therapist and ortho all keep telling me I'm right on track and had major surgery. They said the pain can be there almost a year. There is no sign of fusion for me but everything looks good. I hate going back to the Percocets. I'm sick of popping all the other pills. Stupid me thought I would be back to work 3 months post op and pain free. Usually I am pretty good researching etc. It caught me by surprise. I hope you are feeling better soon. If you see the dr., keep us updated.

Tammy, I'm so sorry you're going through all this again! You know your body, and you've learned so much about all this. You probably have an idea what's going. I do hope it's not something more serious than a flare up. Do you have enough pain meds on hand to keep it under control until you get in to see your doctor?
Any chance your current doctor can help you by pulling some strings to get you in sooner to see the Johns Hopkins doctor? It's not like you're leaving your doctor because you had any problem with him.
Are the family members who are coming likely to be able to help you out? Do they understand that you're not going to be up to being entertainment central for them? Hopefully, they'll be content to just be with you and not be too demanding on your energy and strength.
I know you know, but rest as well as you can. I guess you're not doing your exercises for now. And you know that lots of folks on here are praying their hearts out for you! You've had far more than your share of suffering! Break out a few of those pity party favors. I'm commiserating with you! And you're gonna get through this! ((((((Hugs))))))
Blessings,
Emily

Tammy,
I am so sorry to hear about your pain and your flare up. Hopefully you just overdid things. I went to see a massotherapist for a myofascia release. It felt so good - but then the next day oh my God, the pain was worse then ever. It even went down my leg, I closed the bathroom door and cried. It has now calmed down again - thank God. He really did help me, the muscles in my butt have finally released. That d-- SCIATICA. It should be a four letter word. The classes you are taking are difficult, but as sharp as you are, you will be ok. Maybe your relatives will be a godsend? Your doc with his education from John Hopkins - will hopefully be of great assistance to you.
I cannot take Neurotin by mouth either. I was given a script for it, but made me so spacey and dizzy I never took another tab. One day I was in so much pain I pulverized the tablet and mixed it with some lotion and applied to my leg. It did give me relief - although it didn't last long maybe a 1/2 hour or so.
I hope you find relief and all works out well. I will remember you in my prayers tonight.

Hey Tammy, I hope that maybe today you are feeling a bit better. It really does bring a person down lower than normal, when things are going well for a while and then something like what you describe happens.
Anyway, I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you can get in to see this new Dr. quickly.
Hugs and prayers, Lorie:angel:

Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that I just finished a 2 week flare up and this was my 3rd since surgery 1 yr ago. It was the worst one yet. Dont worry. I did figure out that the more i layed around the worse I was getting. I started movin again and it has left. All is good with me again. When I stretch my butt muscles and other muscles, I flare up around the tailbone area. When I lay around, I get muscle spasms.
Take Care
Sheri
