View Full Version : X-Stop spacers... recovery?

HI there,

My dad just went through surgery today. He had 2 x-stop spacers inserted between L3/L4 & L4/L5. The surgery was only an hour, and apparently everything went well. The surgeon said he shoud be up and around within a couple of days and recovery time should be minimal.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of surgery? ... I guess it's rather new. Anyway I know my dad's expectations will be that his pain will be gone (excluding the incision site) quickly. I'm worried that since he's been dealing with the pain the prompted the surgery for 3-4 years that the pain won't disappear so fast. If the nerves had been pinched/compromised for that length of time, won't there be some extended nerve pain?

Poor guy... he's a old school hard hat diver that got the bends back in the 70's. He's been suffering ever since and thought this pain was just par for the course... never occurred to him that he might have injured himself even more during one of his falls over the years. :( Apparently that is the case and makes me sad that he's been suffering so long just thinking this was the "hand he'd been dealt"...

Anyway - sorry to ramble, but just wanted to hear of any other x-stop stories.

Thanks for listening...

Hi Sbbo97,

I don't know personally of anyone who has had this surgery. I am curious about it though and will follow and learn from this post.

I do wish your father a good, speedy recovery. Your a great daughter, researching for him. Please keep us posted on his recovery, if you don't mind.

Take care and God Bless,
Bernie

I work in a retail store in the Mall The other day a guy came in and said he was moving to the area. As it turns out it works for the company that produced the x-stop. He told me alot about it and I found it very interesting.

Hope this works for you father and that he is up and around really quickly.

Best Wishes I will keep you father in my thoughts and prayer.

Let us know how he is doing.

Sandy
