2 weeks ago I just received this form of surgery to remove my prostate. One of the side effects is this burning at the end of my penis whenever I urinate. It can get pretty fierce at times and I was wondering when this agony will stop. Is there any one out there that can give me a clue?

It sounds as if you have already had the catheter removed. Some docs leave the catheter in for up to four weeks to be certain the reattachment of the urethra and bladder has healed and so that the urethra itself can heal. My suspicion is that there was some irritation at the urethral opening, sorta like a blister with a new pair of shoes, and that it is burning when urine hits it. Does soap produce the same sensation when you shower or bathe?

my husband complained about this after having his catheter removed. Friday will be 2 weeks since catheter removal. He is drinking alot of water and he said that it has really eased up the last 2 days. Remember, a catheter is a foreign object that is inside of your body...your body recognizes that and there was probably some inflammation. Hopefully it will get better.
