Fot the past few months I have had a pain in my buttock and it is very painful when I sit.Sometimes the pain travels down my leg. I read some place that you have a sort of Shock absorber in your buttock and I feel his may be where the pain is coming from. My docs have gave me codamol but this is not helping. I get a bit of relief from ibrophen but my Doctors say I have not to use it due to HBP. does anyone know if this pain is coming from a back problem. Thanks

I have pain like this, but I also hurt my back about a month ago. So I dont know if that helps you. Does your back hurt? Do you remember ever hurting your back?

Hi Wilsy: Since you have a Dr. can't they do some test's and tell you what's going on? When you have pain in the buttocks, and leg, generally it means that you have a nerve problem, provoked by either a disc injury or nerve compression, among *other* things.
The discs in your back are considered shock absorbers for the spine, so if they are injured, you no longer have that shock absorbing affect to protect you from movement of the spine. I have pain in my leg, buttocks, and low back due to the injury and nerve compression I have there. Buttocks pain generally means the injury is to your lower spine and nerves in that region.
Some times this pain will subside with rest, physical therapy etc, but if it doesn't you need to find out what's causing it.
Sitting is something that really provokes the pain with these types of problems, along with standing, and walking, so you should really have someone look at it. Try to limit the amount of time you sit by alternating between that and standing, walking, or *simple* stretching. Appyling ice and heat is also good for this.
Good Luck...

It sounds like classic sciatica pain. Maybe the nerver is compressed. An MRI would show it. Usually you do the meds, therapy and if not better they send you for MRI. I get relief from a heating pad.

I think that kind of pain is the worse , I also suffer from it. It does sound like sciatic , I'm not a Dr. or anywhere near it but I do live it.
Please go see a Dr. that specializes on the spine and get closer. :)

Hi
I have terrible buttock pain in both at the same time sometimes!!
Which makes it very hard to sleep beacause i have alower back problem so carnt sleep on my back.
It doesnt matter if i rest for the day or walk about it stays with me.
All i can say is that mine is related to my back problem.
It does seem to relate to pains down my leg an cramp like feelings in my foot so would say it is to do with the nerve.
Best wishes

Sherry it sounds like sciatica to me...If you have hurt your back it is most likely the culprit. You may need to follow up with an MRI to find out what's going on. I hope you feel better and don't need one though!! It is hard dealing with the sciatica most of us here completely understand that. Iwish you the best.

Hi Wilsy and welcome to the board,
It sounds like sciatic pain to me. But if you don't get any relief and it just keeps on, please go and have it checked out. Heat from a heating pad or hot baths used to help mine. One time is was really bothering me, and my pm dr. did a trigger point injection.... whowa, if I wasn't sure before then, I most definately knew after. He hit the nerve, and when he did, my butt and leg were on fire, and then my whole leg went to sleep. I started to fall and thank goodness, others were there to catch me.
Since this has been going on with you for awhile now, try and get seen soon, so that they can figure whats going on and how to treat you. Good luck!!

Sounds exactly how my pain started 2 years ago. Please..Please..go to the doctor. You will probably have an x-ray first..if it doesn't show anything..insist on a MRI. The sooner you go to the doctor the sooner you can get some relief. Keep us posted.
