I was diagnosed with PC on January 11, 2007. 1/4 core samples on left, 2/4 on right, comprising 1.5% and 3% of core samples totaling 44mm and 75mm. Gleason of 3/3.
I have a particular surgeon I want to do my surgery, but he is not available until April 13. My urologist says the first date after biopsy, due to wanting the prostate to heal, is March 5. There are 38 days between that date and April 13. He states that I am "safe" within six months. What experience have others had in this regard?
Flyfisher:
Think your doctor is right. At Gleason 6 your cancer would not be considered at the aggressisve stage. Alot of men take that long researching treatment options before making a decision.
I had a Gleason 6 and had proton rather than surgery, but was diagnosed in Febr and didn't have treatment until June.

I waited only two months before having surgery, and it turned out to be lucky that I did not wait any longer. I had a very agressive cancer that doubled in size in those two months - a couple more months of waiting and my outcome may have been much different. After two and a half years, I am still doing fine (age 55).

This is all new to me and the information I have gotten is that the gleason 6, 3+3, is not aggressive. I was diagnosed in Dec 2006 and am still deciding what to treatment avenue to take. I have a gleason 3+3 and psa 6.0 I have had four consults and the doctors all felt I have at least a few months to decide, or longer, if I had psa test each six months.
