I posted earlier this week about my doc appt. and him giving me more time off. I failed to mention that he took me off Soma (muscle relaxer) and changed me to Flexeril. I cannot tell you how much relief this has given me. My hip and back pain have gone from an average of 8 on a daily basis to a 2. I am able to do a 45 minute walk a day (was impossible before). I really hope this continues as I feel so much better.

I have noticed that I feel more reserved and tired though. It could be PMS and adjusting to the new meds. Right now it doesn't matter. I'm just glad that I have some relief. I've also found that after a walk ice does me more good than heat does. Sorry, for rambling. I wish you all a painless, restful sleep. ;)

Hi Ollie,

Wow thats a big drop in the pain, how wonderful. I hope it keeps up for you!! I have found out almost everytime that a med was switched with me, there was also some adjusting that took place. But, since your getting so much relief, this sounds like the one for you. :)

Take care,

Bernie

I agree the ice gives much more needed relief than heat does, just not as comfortable to use of course. If you dont mind I'm interested what problems were you having on Soma opposed to Flexerel ??

Av,
The doctor was concerned that the Soma was keeping me too drowsy to be up and about like I should be. I will admit that the Soma made me feel drugged up, almost drunk at times. I was taking it three times a day. The flexeril makes me feel sleepy but not drunk so I can still stay awake and do the things I need to. I have even felt like cleaning a little. And when I say a little I mean it. Still no BLT for me :).

Ollie - What was your dosage of soma? I am just curious. I am taking 350 mg twice daily. I found taking the entire pill at once to be overpowering. So I have been taking 1/2 a pill spaced throughout the day (6 a.m., 12 p.m., 6 pm, and 11 pm.) to be very effective.

By the way, my doc had me on flexeril before and it knocked me out which is why we switched to soma.

Flexeril has always been my muscle relaxer of choice, none of the other ones ever helped me, don't know if i've tried soma. That is awesome it has given you that big of a relief that quickly...ya can't beat that. Good news!!! Hope you continue to feel better and better.

I am so glad you are feeling better. You have had a time at it. I have had Soma in the past and it does have the drunk affect on me. It works but my mind was always cloudy. My Dr. said he will not prescribe Soma because it acts as a tranquilzer once it passes thru the liver. I am on flexerial and I am not sure at this point anything is working. Hope the surgery helps.
When I went to the ER they gave me norflex. This made me sleepy but did work very well. Also was costly as my insurance considers it a tier 2 drug.

Seems like there is a lot of different muscle relaxers. zanaflex was my Dr's first choice which did nothing for me except give me a headache.

Good luck keep us posted.

Hi Ollie,
So glad your feeling better on the flexiril, I was soma and I suffered the side effect of not being able to sleep for more than an hour or so, it was horrible. I have been on flexiril for over a yr and when I miss a dose boy do I KNOW it.

I hope you continue to get relief on this.

God Bless

Carol

Wow -- I could not imagine taking it 3 x per day. No wonder why you were tired.

Thanks.
