What do we do when our babies turn one and are suppose to begin drinking cow milk, but yet they still drink at night? Do we stop feeding them at night, feed them the cow milk at night, which can't be good. ???

Lately, he has been waking at night for a small feeding around 4am or so. I wake and give him a small drink when he wakes up, then he goes right back to sleep. I am just going with the flow. I think he is going through a phase, he has always slept through the night (9pm-6am). I guess he is just getting thirsty at night. I don't know if cow's milk is not as filling as formula or breastmilk, but I have noticed the change since putting him on cow's milk. Amy Savason1 02-12-2007, 11:04 AM My dd was the same as the first postar. I started her at 9 months on cows milk. I got rid of the bottle and started sippy cups and cows milk at the same time. She had no problems at all. I slowly introduced the sippy/milk to her it wasn't all in one day but when I finally did switch it fully she did well. She slept through the night most of the time so there weren't many feedings but if she did get up it was cows milk in a sippy she got. I am breast feeding this time with ds so I am not sure how I will do things this time, ds son is lactose intolerant right now but hopefully it won't last for long. Good luck Sava lex jude 02-12-2007, 02:37 PM I was a bit hesitant with the cow's milk because my son had been on soy formula and I didn't want to do it cold turkey. So here is what I did--I started to give him soy milk at first, bit by bit until I phased the formula out. Then I mixed th esoy with the cow's milk and eased that into his diet. After a while he was able to digest the milk without a problem. I started this around 12 months, but I didn't do it in a hurry. I also give my son a bit of a snack before he goes to bed--some cereal and some fruit, then I give him a few ozes of milk. He didn't get up for me at all, and when he did I KNEW he wasn't hungry because by one he shouldn't need food at the middle of night. If he seemed thirsty, I would give him water--that's it! After a while, he got the point, and would go back to bed. Good luck! Once it's done, you'll feel much better! weepyone 02-12-2007, 05:13 PM i am in the same situation too ds is 1 in around 3 weeks. i am going to swop his lunch bottle to whole milk first or maybe the breakfast one i am unsure? i also need to start swapping his milk bottle for a sippy cuphe ha sall his juice from a cup, and stop sterilising - we are advise dto sterilise all bottles baby is 1 in the uk i know it is daft i don't sterilise his spoons but sterilising and measuring formula is in my routine for milk making. you know what i will maybe throw out the steriliser tomorrow as the bin men come then i hav eno choice but to not sterilise! |
