A couple of days ago, I had severe pain all day under my ribs on the right side. The pain was not constant. It would come in surges every few minutes. I thought maybe it was my gallbladder because I have had a stone before. Anyway, when I awoke the next morning the pain was gone but I had a lump on my ribs where the pain was. It is not attached to the ribs and I can move it around a little. Any ideas on what this could be???

I have also been having right sided flank pain on and off for the past 5 weeks. I had an ultrasound and a CT scan done and it just showed that my right kidney was enlarged and they "saw something near the kidney" but wasn't sure what and I can't have a kidney IVP done because I am severely allergic to the dye. They have also found protein in my urine.

Could this all be related and what could the lump be? I am very frustrated and would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Well I think one thing that would be good news is that you say the lump is movable. It is usually the ones that are more fixed and hard that turn out to be problematic. Nevertheless, it sounds as if you need to continue with diagnostic testing and such to determine what is underlying your symptoms. I don't know that anyone here is qualified to advise about what these symptoms may be.

All the best!

Hi just a wild guess, but could it perhaps be kidney stones you have?? I do know that they can be very painful.

Whatever it is I hope you can get some answers soon.

Good luck

Westjac,

Are you still working toward a diagnosis with your doctor? I can't imagine they would see "something" near an enlarged kidney and just leave you out in the cold.

If you don't have a diagnosis yet, go back to the doctor and ask for ALL the possibilities, even if they can't give you a definitive answer yet. Write them down and then look them up online.

Once you have the list, if you need resources, come back here and I'll see what I can find for you.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your replies. I went to see my MD yesterday and she said the lump on my ribs is just a cyst and not to worry about it. It should probably go away on it's own.
As for the flank pain and abdominal pain, she thinks it may all be due to endometriosis (I have horrible periods and ongoing pelvic pain for a year now) and sent me to an obgyn who I also was able to see yesterday as an urgent consult. He seemed very good and has me scheduled for a diagnostic laparoscopy on March 12.
This may sound like a dumb question but does anyone know if he will be looking at the entire abdominal area or just at the pelvic region? I was a little overwhelmed by seeing him so quickly yesterday that I didn't think to ask him. Is it possible for growths to be on my kidneys or gallbladder? And I wonder if this cyst has anything to do with that. I know I should've asked him all this yesterday.:dizzy:
All he did say was that my kidney could be enlarged from endometriosis on the urterer.

If it was your gallbladder your pain would likely be quite different and you would be wondering about gallbladder stones rather than cysts. Glad to hear the cyst on your ribs is not serious.
