View Full Version : How long to stay lying down after sex?

My DH are trying to conceive - but he's a morning person! If he succeeds in waking me up in the morning, I get very antsy after having sex because I want to get up and start my day, but I keep worrying about the semen spilling out. Is there any rule of thumb for how long I should stay lying down, and is there any position which I should remain in in order to maximize the chances of the semen getting into the cervix?

Is it better for one's chances of conception to have sex right before going to bed at night, or does it not matter?

should say in bed a half hour - also, try raising your hips or put your feet up in the air for a minute or two

Last month I only bd once around O and I stayed in bed for a 1/2 hour with a pillow under my bum. (Got a BFP) Don't know if you need to elevate or not, but I read that there is no need to stay in bed much longer than a 1/2 hour, and you want what's left to run out at that point so you don't confuse it w/ CM when you check for fertility signs. I don't think it matters what time of day, in fact the morning would be good if you O the night before (if your temps rise that morning). Of course the night/day before would work in that case as well

I agree to remain laying down for 1/2 hour. Also, the month I did a headstand after sex I got my BFP! I guess I'll never know if I owe it to the headstand or not!

I ll try the headstand this cycle . . . . it will definitely baffle my DH. I am so happy for your BFP megs hope you are stating to feel a bit better and that your nausea is descreasing. Have been following for the past few months since i also had a m/c a will ago. Wishing you all the best for the following months.

lol I did the headstand thing a couple times this month when we were ttc. I am still in the waiting period so I don't know if it worked. I stayed up until the blood rushed down to my head and that didn't feel so great. That would be funny if it really worked!

Well it wasn't a true headstand...I lifted my legs up and raised my pelvis and held them up by putting my hands under my bottom. I would usually touch my toes to the wall behind the bed. It isn't very easy to stay like that so I only remained in position for a few minutes:)
Good luck guys!!!

well i didn't have sex with my DH and waited two days when i knew i was ovulating so we tried last night and i stood in bed after we were finished so i'm hoping it worked. i read that the best way to get pregnant is being on all fours is that true

Well about the head stand thing never tried it. After not concieving for a while I talked with my mom. She told me to put my feet on the head board and lift my butt in the air. So your pelvis is about your head. It can kind of be uncomfortable but it might have worked for me!! I'll let you know. If not because of you guys I have some more ideas! Thanks, hope for a BFP!!!
