Hi all. I've been running on a treadmill for about 3 years now. I don't get a chance to run outdoors much. I don't mind the dreadmill like either people do http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif I usually switch from weight training, kickboxing, step and running on the treadmill. ANYHOW. I've been thinking about replacing my treadmill with a crosstrainer. I've heard their great. I think it would be nice do something easier on my knees...but I was just wondering if anyone has used them what they feel about it etc? What brand do you use?? Thanks.

Hello. I've used the cross trainer at the gym and it is great. I however, prefer the treadmill (it's easier) the cross trainer really works your total body!! good luck

I have used the crosstrainer and even done the interval courses at a good incline. I notice my muscles were staying in pretty good shape, but when I went back to running I had lost some of my lung power. It was harder for me to make it through my miles.
I did keep a good pace on the crosstrainer as well and a good incline, so it wasn't that, there is just nothing that is running..........but running.
just my personal preference. But I will say I did like the cross trainer too it wasn't like I gained any pounds and my musles still looked great. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
so both are good. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I get shin splints really easily and my knees do not like a lot of running, so an elip/cross trainer is almost a necessity for me for cardio. I could bike to avoid the impact and stress on my legs, but the cross trainers make me work harder. My favorite is the LifeFitness (I think that's what it's called), it's almost a stairmaster/elip hybrid. It's great for building endurance and gives my shins and knees a chance to recover from running.

If you're looking to buy a machine, I would buy a crosstrainer/ellipse machine, only b/c if you want to run you could always make time to go outside if you really desperately wanted to run. I personally really like the workout that an elliptical machine gives, it works more of your body all at once and you burn more calories and work more muscle groups than just plain running. You don't have to do as many miles to get the same benefits. I guess that's my whole argument. Let us know what you decide!
