So last Monday I experienced a very stressful event, plus I'm 17 and we just got through finals at my school. Tuesday I had a pounding migrane headache. Wednesday I had stomach pain. Thursday I felt a little better but when I was on the way home from school, I almost threw up in the car. On Friday, I was bed ridden and having dry heaves. Saturday I began to feel better and Sunday I felt better. I went to school for a bit to try to get make up work and I feel sick when I go up to the school. I don't have a fever. As soon as I came home, I began to feel better again. I don't know what to do. Is this anxiety related? I'm afraid of becoming sick at school and not being able to do anything about it. Can somebody please help? My birthdays tomorrow also and now I think it's going to be ruined. Please help me.

Sounds like you have gotten yourself all worked up about school, and things. My daughter, who is 15, goes thru the same thing from time to time. If she has an exam that she thinks that she is not prepared for, then she develops a headache, she gets an upset stomach, and sometimes feels dizzy. At first we (the parents) thought that she had a touch of the flu, but then we discovered that there was a pattern starting to developed.
We have even noticed as of late that when she gets into trouble, ie at home for something, she dwells on this, and has troubles sleeping, and sure as heck then next day there is a symptom or two that shows up.
She has always been a worrier, and when she messes something up, it bothers her greatly.
Are you a worrier, and do you let things pile up? Or is this something new that has developed. Your anxieties likely have been there for sometime, it is just that the symptoms are more noticeable now.
If this remains as an ongoing concern, I would go see your doctor, and advise him or her that you may be having symptoms of anxiety.....
Any other questions, fire away
Have a nice day,
Gary

Yeah this year it's been really bad, I don't know what happened. I think I need to exercise more. I don't really exercise and I think that if I started to exercise, it would go away. What did they do for your daughter? Has she tried different treatments and exercise? My dad also has anxiety problems so maybe its heredity. It's just very frusterating.

Exersise I am told is a great anxiety reliever. Loosens you up, and takes your mind off things. Do you have anyone that you can talk to - like your parents, a friend, a school counsellor. If you have had "a year" then things just may have built up enough for you where you begin to exhibit signs of stress and anxiety. Its funny, it can build and build, and you can worry and worry, but if you get to the point where you can no longer file things away in your mind, then sometime you get symptoms, like what you have described.
As far as my daughter, she seems to be doing OK. We (the parents) sat down with her - at her own time of course (she is 15 and beats to a different rythmn than the folks) - and I have a hunch that you can relate being 17 - but we talked about the things that were bothering her, and how to tackle some of the things that she was having problems with. She just needed a bit of guidance in priorizing some of her activities, and not to get so involved in her friend's personal life - which has seemed to help her abit.
When she does get upset, we try to talk things thr with her, however, if this looks like this is going to be an ongoing issue with her, then we will see about having her see someone who deals with her kind of stresses and things.
You might have to consider the same, if you find you cannot talk it out with family or friends, and from everything that I have heard, a little therapy in a person's life is a great thing....
Here to help too, if I can

I'm glad your daughters feeling better. Thanks for the advice. My whole high school career hasn't been perfect. My grandma died, my dad had some anxiety problems, our dog died, and college is coming up. It's a lot of stress. I think I will need to learn how to handle things better. I really relate to books. So maybe I could read a book on it. Also the vitamin 5HTP has been working for me I just need to take it on a daily basis. Thanks again.

Interesting about the 5 HTP - this is a natural med as you know to help regulate seretonin levels. When seretonin levels are down, it is believed to cause anxiety, etc. So it sounds like you are on the right path, and if the 5HTP is working for you, this may be another indication that you are having some anxiety issues. I hope that the reading of books will help you more, but remember that there are people out there trained to help you along the way, and provide you with ways to achieve positive cognitive thinking. You might want to look at this as well, and get a good hand on it before it gets rooted deeper within..
