hey everyone....
i am so frustrated with doctors lately...
i was suspicious that something was wrong with me due to persistent acne since the age of 11 (22 now) i figured something must be wrong
i also went on birth control at age 19 due to irregular periods-always late periods..not too too irregular tho...
i saw an endocrinologist and he clinically diagnosed me with PCOS...i had an ultrasound done by my family doctor which showed "a string of pearls" of cysts around my ovary...then i saw a gyno who also said he thinks i have but just cant prove it.,..i just saw another gyno today and didnt really tell me if i have it or not...im just so lost...do i or dont i? also, i went on accutane last year and had great results ..has anyone cured their acne caused by pcos through a course of accutane? has anyone went off birth control, specifically diane 35? has anyone done a course of accutane and been on diane 35? i would rather not be on birth control but im scared my skin will go back to the way it used be...im wondering if accutane took care of that for me...ive read that acne due to pcos is due to to testosterone..so does that mean that accutane is useless..? are there other ways to reduce testosterone other than medication like birth control? any natural solutions?

I was diagnosed recently with pcos by bloodwork and an ultrasound that showed cysts. I also have irregular periods and hair. My doc just started me on metformin. I have also always had pretty bad acne. I took accutane a few years ago. At the time when I took it, it did clear up my face. But I got pregnant a few months after I went off of it. After I had my daughter my face began to break out again, although it was not as bad and I could control it with lotion and over the counter clean and clear benzoyl peroxide medication. So now finding out that I do have pcos that might be why my acne did come back some, but Im not totally sure. I hope this helps you, but I am new at this also!:)

I've never had a problem with acne. I get the occasional zit, but I never have bad breakouts or multiple blemishes at once.

the string of pearls is quite indicative of pcos. i wonder if u had an ultrasound, how come they didnt just do bloodwork on you? im pretty sure u have it, from the ultrasound. i have acne too! ive been on yasmin for 1month, and no clearing so far. i am also making an appt to try to get spiro, as that also blocks the testosterone. its crazy! my levels were soo high :(
