Does anyone know what effect ingesting 10 teaspoons of sugar would have on cholesterol test? Had a Dr. Pepper on way to Dr.'s office. Have since learned that it contains that amount of sugar. Would it make much of a difference in test results?

Yes, It will mess up yout triglycerides and since they go into the calulation of LDL that reading will be untrustworthy also.

You will be able to believe your HDL.

I did the same thing,forgot and had sugar about an hour before my last test. I fasted, then in the am I had my coffee (large cup) with 2 tablespoons of sugar. My Triglyceride results were 632!! It was 266 last test which was still too high, but now I have no idea where should be right now because of that. I will be re-tested in few weeks, but I have been on Tri-Cor for high Tris and low good cholesterol and exercising everyday and watching diet now. I did none of that in between tests, but that number scared me, even though was altered by my mistake!

Lenin and fishertimm, thanks for your input. Do either of you know just how LDL is calculated?

Ldl = Total Cholesterol - Hdl - (triglycerides/5)

i am so glad that i read tis. i was told that coffee with sugar and creamora was ok and i do need my morning coffee. after reading this i got some sweet and low and had my several cups of coffee black.i will get my results friday.i never had a high triglycerdie number but if this helps to make the total number i wil be so happy.my last test was several months ago i took a break but the last time my hdl was very high and my doctor was very pleased. my hdl was higher then the normal range which he said brought the total number up.
