Hi ladies, I'm new to this site but I just wanted to know if anyone had extreme pain during their HSG test. I was crying for an hour after it was done. It was the worst pain and lots of blood afterwards. I think the doctor did something wrong. I heard it was a piece of cake. I literally screamed on the doctors table. Maybe he didn't numb my cervix. Anyone have a similar experience.

Hi BabyLove, I also experienced extreme pain during the HSG. My situation doesn't sound identical to yours, but I just wanted to share my story with you anyway. Maybe you won't feel like you're the only one it happened to...
To start with, I only have one tube (lost the other to a tubal pg years ago), and it was completely blocked at the time of the HSG. Getting the catheter in place wasn't a problem, it was when the dye was injected that the pain started. It was excruciating, and I thought I was going to end up kicking my dr in the face to make him stop. I cried, they took a break, gave me a muscle relaxer, and tried again...It didn't get any better. There was definitely cramping afterward, and a little bit of bleeding. I was feeling okay by the next day though.
How much bleeding did you have? Are you still in a lot of pain? I don't think they normally numb the cervix, so that probably wasn't the problem, but I don't think you should have a ton of bleeding either. It might be worth calling your dr if you are still bleeding heavily. I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I have heard many women have no problem with the test as well. I guess we just weren't the lucky ones. I hope you feel much better really soon. By the way, did you get your results? I'd love to hear how it turned out. Good luck to you!!

Thanks for sharing with me Holly! I hope your HSG final result was a success. They told me my tubes were clear.Thank God! My husband has very low sperm count but they insisted I did the test for insurance purposes. Again thanks for sharing. I literally screamed on the table. I think I was more embarrassed than I've ever been. I couldn't help i...it hurt so bad...bleeding has stopped and I just have slight cramping. How did your test turn out?

That is so great that your tubes are clear!! I'm also glad to hear that the bleeding has stopped. That would worry me if it hadn't.
My HSG results were not so great - it confirmed the blockage in my tube. Since then though, I have gone through a laparoscopy, and my dr was able to open the tube back up. I still have other issues, but at least we are now back in the game! I'm scheduled for my very first IUI this month, and I'm so excited! :blob_fire
As for your DH, is there anything they can do to increase his count? Have they discussed treatment options? I firmly believe vitamins can help...they helped my man with his count and motility. I wish you all the luck in the world!

Thanks for the posts Holly and blueyed...
Holly I wish you the best with your first IUI. Please let me know the outcome. I have a feeling it will be a BFP! As far as my hubbys infertility...he has to have an operation for his vericoseal. I think we'll do iui too sometime in the future. I'll talk to DH about vitamins. thanks for the advice. Its nice to know people on this board care.

Hello, my hsg sounds very similar to yours. Mine was VERY painful. It took a few hours to do. They couldn't get the catheter in and I was bleeding all over the place. When they finally got the catheter in, with no numbing, it was again VERY painful when the dye went through. I was also crying for awhile after the fact. I couldn't believe how painful it was. I was told it would feel like a pap smear. I guess for some women it is very painful. I had an endometrial biopsy last week and it was nothing like the hsg, you would think the biopsy would be worse. Good luck!!

Babylove,
I am so sorry you had to go through all the pain! unfortunatelly it is quite common.
I heard it's horrible from a friend and I was so scared that I did my first IUI without checking if my tubes are open or not...I thought I will think about it if IUI doesn't work.
I still don't want to do it, if they are clear I did it for nothing, if they are blocked even more painful things come, like laparoscopy :( and it might be that they can't fix it and I have to go to IVF anyway.
So, especially after what you describe, I'd rather spare myself the pain and go straight to IVF, am I crazy?
Well, let's hope that's not the case, I am 2ww now.
Hang in there, the pain is over and at least you know for sure you are OK.
You were very brave to do it!

I too had a lot of pain during the hsg, and I wasn't prepared at all. I went in expecting it to be a piece of cake. Boy was I wrong!! Fortunately, the procedure itself was quick, and I didn't have any bleeding.
