Dream,

Usually I am against low carb (high-fat) dieting, but for diabetics with errors in their glucose metabolism, it is another thing entirely.
It is not so much what to buy, but rather what to avoid.
OFF your list is cake, candy, pie, or anything with sugar in it.
OFF your list are high-carb vegetables like pasta, rice, potatoes, corn, cereals, etc.
OFF your list are fruits and bread

ON your list are eggs, meat, green vegetables, salads/salad dressing. You will be eating LOTS of eggs in the morning...LOTS!

No regular sodas, but all the Diet Soda you want (and Diet Jello...probably the ONLY dessert.)

Sort of in between are beans and milk because both have very slowly digested carbohydrates.

Did your doctor give you a spelled out diet with DO's and DON'T's?

No she didn't give me the do's and don't's. She gave me a sheet that stated: 2 ounces of protein, 1 complex carb and calorie free drink for breakfast, 4 ounces of protein, low carb veggies and salad if desired for lunch. (no limit on low carb veggies), 4-6 ounces of protien, one serving of complex carb, low carb veggies for dinner. snack will be one fruit and one serving of milk. That's all she gave me. She also wants me to have dropped some weight by the next time I see her. I go back in 1 month. So, you see the need for suggestions on what to buy. Thanks for you anwer.

I have been living a low carb lifestyle since 2001. This is a sample of what my diet consisted of:

Breakfast:
Coffee/Tea
Eggs / Breakfast meats
Supplements

Lunch:
Plain Cottage Cheese
Cold Cuts/Cheese Roll Ups
Veggies and Melted Cheese

Snacks:
Nuts
String Cheese/Package Cheeses
Celery with cream cheese

Dinner:
Meat
Green Vegetables

I wouldn't eat dessert because I found that eating processed foods / chemically enhanced foods that alter the natural structure of the food - like low carb cupcakes etc with sugar alcohols would make me feel ill. Not good to eat processed unnatural foods anyway.

Good Luck!

Good luck on your diet!
I like to buy nuts or string cheese for when I want a snack, maybe that will help you also :)

Good Luck! How do you get grains etc, on a low carb diet???? Well I guess I mean fiber. I wouldn't want to get constipated.

So you don't eat any wheat bread or wraps??? What if it is low carb. I am just paranoid, because my mom had colon cancer???

I found that a mixture of oatmeal, oat bran, wheat bran, soy granules works well for me for breakfast. I mix a box of each together(no need for close measuring) and store in large container. I use 1 heaping tablespoonful in 1/2 cup water, microwave until mixture rolls over but not out of the bowl, let set few minutes. Adding BlueBunny Sweet Fredom 5 carb yogurt makes a nice creamy mixture.

Lunch is 3 oz. lean meat and 1/2 cup green vegetable and small lettuce tomato salad or another 1/2 cup green vegetable, different variety.

Dinner is same as lunch.

The above worked well for me and I lost 65 lbs and brought diabetes under control. I control via diet/exercise only, no meds.

For snack when I get real hungry one ounce nuts helps, nibbled over time.

no i am intolerant to wheat and flour products. to be honest there is more fiber in healthier sources such as:

flax seed products
mustard greens
chicory
endive
collard greens
avocado
spinach / chard
broccoli
cauliflower
blackberries
asparagus
celery
eggplant
romaine lettuce
mushrooms
radishes
red raspberries
strawberries
cranberries
blueberries
grapefruit

the other thing to consider is that breakfast or lunch should be your largest meal of the day - rather than dinner. healthier all the way around!
