I had my test this morning and it showed that my tubes are blocked. I have to meet with the dr to see what my options are from here, but I can't understand how I could ovulate with them being blocked, can anyone explain this? Has anyone had thier tubes blocked and what did you go thru? I know my dr will explain all this to me, I am going nuts needing to know.

I am sorry for your results. I can t answer all your questions what i can tell you is that most probably you ovulate normally however since the tubes are blocked the sperm cannot reach the egg. However there are other options dont give up. in some cases they may try to un block the tubes however this depends on the case. IVF is another option but these are things which you have to discuss with your dr. This must be a difficult time for you but there are options.

I ll be thinking of you.

Thanks Amy, the dr's office said to continue with all the other tests they wanted done, this way we can see if the tube thing is the only thing that is causing a problem. So...we will see.

Hi Amy.

First off I am so sorry about your tubes being blocked. I to was diagnosed with two blocked tubes over the summer last year, which was hard to deal with. The tubes should have nothing to do with you being able to ovualte so don't stress about that.

My options were to do nothing and try IVF, have a laparoscopy to unblock the tubes, get a lap to cauterize the tubes and try IVF (this way you can go back & try to unblock later) or remove both my tubes and do IVF.

My decision was to remove my tubes and go straight to IVF. My decision was based on my age (35), the fact that my tubes are hydros and IVF has the best success of them all based on my situation. I debated trying to unblock them, but this would be a longer process for me and the tubes can become blocked again and the success rates were not high enough for me to try compared to IVF at the clinics I was going to. The hydros are filled with fluid so that is why I am removing them prior to IVF as they say it lowers the success rate if the tubes are left in.

I also got more than one opinion on my situation before deciding what we should do. It is a tough decision to make and of course insurance and $$ can be an issue so just take your time and ask lots of questions so you feel comfortable.

I am set for my surgery March 16th but am nervous as it is so final but I am excited to start IVF soon after my surgery.

I wish you all the best!! :)

Jobeth, Thanks for your information. I am just not sure what to do at this point. My husband and I both said we did not want to go as far as IVF, but now that I see it might be my only option I am leaning towards it. I have my apt with the dr in a few weeks, after the rest of the testing is done, so I guess I will take it from there. Good luck with your surgery :)

Thanks Amy.

Just take your time and try not to rush into anything. Every situation is different so what I decided may not be the best option at this point for you, so talk to you Drs. and husband to decide what is best for the both of you. It took us some time to finally make a decision.

Good luck with everything!
