When my husband first got his meter about a year ago, just for fun I would test myself. It was always around 80's no matter what I ate or when I ate it. Well, when I saw my husband testing himself today, I thought I would try it again.
Now I didn't eat anything all day, waiting to have some valenties chocolate:) I also spent alot of time outside shoveling. I ate some chocolate candies, and I tested myself, it was 140. Is that normal?

How long after you'd eaten the chocolates did you test?
Chocolates are very high in sugar (carbs) and they'll usually raise the blood sugar levels significantly.

I can't really remember because it's not like I was planning to test, it was just a whim. But I did decided to test myself 1 hour after supper, we had hotdogs and beans and my number was 149. I guess I will test myself in the morning to see what the number is then.
For some reason I thought that if you didn't have pre-diabetes or diabetes then no matter what you ate, your number would be under 120? Is this correct?

According to the Joslin Diabetes Center, even a non-diabetic might have a blood sugar of close to 140 about two hours after a meal, depending on what they ate, but it should quickly go back to 110 or less.

OK, well I did test my self this morning thinking I was being paranoid yesterday. I didn't eat anything since 10pm, and I just tested my blood at 8:30am and it read 116, now I know that's not where it should be. Like I said I clearly remember a year ago testing my self after eating lots of sweets just to see what the number would read, and they were never over 80. How accerate are these meters anyway??
