View Full Version : Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

I've been reading lots of naturalpathic literature looking for a cure for my "exercise induced" asthma and I have found out a lot of good things about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy(HOC). I found a place in my own hometown, that is equipped with 2 hyperbaric chambers equipped with pure oxygen that you breathe through a mask for an hour, while reclining/reading in the chamber, under 1-2 atmospheres of pressure.

I noticed when I had to do a short sprint the day following a treatment that I was just barely out of breath as opposed to gasping for air. However by 10 days later I was back where I started it felt like. I'm sure HOC is meant to be done more frequently even up to 5 days a week, and I did make it back so far every 2 weeks and I feel great, but have no real proof of a difference yet. Except that I forgot to take my Advair for 2 full days without noticing any adverse effects, where normally I would wake up in the middle of the first night short of breath. Has anyone else heard about or tried this kinda thing?

I also heard that IV Sterilization (not sure if thats the right term) where the blood is taken out, filtered through a UV light and put back in the bloodstream, is very effective against Asthma. I think cuz Asthma is a virus it is the only way to kill it...? At a clinic in Vancouver they call it "Photoluminescence" which is probably the correct term.

They also offer Ozone Treatments which is supposedly more effective than the Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy but is not available here in Victoria so I haven't tried it. When I emailed Dr Sandar there he said since my Asthma has
only been obvious for 5 years I may be healed in one treatment, or will possibly need a follow up. ($110 each)

He also recommended it with Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy ($80ea) which I don't know much about...if it's an IV method or what..?

I'm surprised and pleased that these alternative to pharmaceutical medicines exist and at such a reasonable price! I hate all pharmaceuticals and prefer to shop at the health food store, although I also hate pills in general or I would be taking some of the herbs recommended for Asthma.

The HOC is a bit pricey cuz you need to go up to 20 times (at $110 ea) before the O2 heals/permeates all parts of the body... into the ligaments, tendons and starts to heal the bones too. The Canucks have been using it as part of their training, it was in the papers. It should be noted that one side effect of the HOC is possible vision problems, in those with their real lenses, although that hasn't been proven, just studied so far. There was an article in Macleans magazine about it. That was a bit daunting but I am going for cataract surgery later this year so will no longer have my real lenses anyway.

Interesting stuff!

The way hyperbaric works is to overinfuse oxygen in the red blood cells, thus carrying more oxygen to the body. However, when the oxygen is "used" up you would have to have another treatment to replace itl Sorry I don't see this as naturopathic. The natural way for me is to take care of my lungs and have them exchange the gases as they are intended to do. I personally would also be afraid of any IV procedure that is not FDA approved. If it hasn't been tested and documented on all ages, sexes, races, etc it can't be predicted how a person might respond to it. I'm not sure how peroxide is supposed to help my breathing. I do believe in a natural approach to healing, but be careful that someone isn't just trying to make a quick buck off you by saying that it is "natural".
