Hello Everyone,
I am new to the board, and of course I have something on my mind that sent me searching for a board on this topic. So, here goes: I have had a problem with my ankles just flipping over on the side without warning, involuntarily, and many times causing me to fall. This has been a problem over the last 6-8 months. Does anyone else here have a similar problem? I also have Diabetes & am obese, so I am trying to figure out if this is caused from one or maybe a combination. Then I need to address what to do to cope with the problem. I work as a Realtor, and being able to move about is pretty important. I am not ready to give up and take disability just yet, if I can avoid it. Like many of you, this time of year is a difficult time of year for me. I fight depression more because I have more pain and feel worse in general with the winter weather. We've had a harder winter than usual this year, like many people across the country, so that hasn't helped. Looking forward to your comments. Thanks.

hi, I also have suffered from weakness in my ankles my whole life. If I would try to run across the street fast or something I'd get shooting pains. Four years ago, being rather overweight and out of shape I went to an event, had to walk a long way for parking. The next day decided you have to start a walking program. Was extremly wore out but, walked anyway. Later that day while walking down steps, still do not know how it happened fell down one maybe two steps broke both ankles in 4 spots. Have had pain ever since, swelling, weakness. Recently diagniosed with fibro. I just bought a pair of skechers, shape-up shoes (khols sells them).Exspensive but, have taken all pressure off my ankles. Don't know if they would help you or not. I am also on my feet all the time cleaning is my job.

I have had ankle weakness my whole life as well, and about the only thing that has helped keep my ankles from collapsing on me when I need to "not" fall out is a good pair of high neck hiking boots. Lacing them up the sides gives them the support I need.
