Hello ladies, do any of you know if there are tests available to check the quality or quantity of a womens eggs. I am 39 and TTC for 12 months. I have 3 children who were conceived after only 3 months of trying each time and now we have been trying for this long, I wonder if it could be a problem with my eggs and could my fertility decline this rapidly in 2 yrs since my last baby was born.

Also I was thinking of having the hcg? dye test done to check my tubes for blockages but i was wondering if there would be a chance of any blockage since my last baby was only born 2 yrs ago. Have any of you ladies had children but found problems with your tubes?

Thank you ladies and good luck and best wishes to you all.

How long have you been trying for? Most doctors will refer you to a IF specialist after you have been trying for a year. Have you tried using a Ovulation predictor kit? If you havent met the requirments for a specialist then I would try the kit, usually works very well. Good luck to you!

Hi Mariella,

Sorry you have been trying for 12 months and still no BFP. We can all understand how you feel and as the months go by it just seems to get harder. Well I think it is a great idea to have HSG to make sure you tubes are not blocked. Also I would recommend that you have your FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) b/w done. This test measures how hard your brain has to work to make eggs and also suggests thw quaility may be poor if the number is too high it can mean a depletion it egg production and quality. This test is usually done on CD3 after 1st day of full AF flow. Another test you can have done is inhibin B which also measures your egg quality.

If you do have these tests and they are abnormal. Just remember a few things. At age 39 it may be higher just b/c of age. The other thing to keep in mind is the test my show abnormal results the 1st month and a few months later it may be right w/i the normal range. This is what my RE told me. So just keep that in mind. Science is not perfect and the labs are not either. These tests are just to give the RE an idea of what MAY be going on. My RE has told me that he has had women older than me (I'm 32 no kids yet) have much higher FSH (I had one high level this cycle, never before that though) and they have concieved more that one child. So try to remain hopeful. Studies suggest going to acupuncture can help increase egg production and quality. Lot's of luck to you!!

Thank you very much ladies for your replies. I am back to see the dr if I am not pg this month, and I will mention these things to him. I really want to move forward with this as I am getting older and time is running out, but sometimes because I already have kids, I feel that he doesn't take me that serious, but he is the only dr in the area.

Best wishes and good luck to you all.

HI, I know the feeling of having children and thinking the Dr's don't take you seriously. My husband and I have been trying for over 8mths and we finally went to see a fertility dr. I figured since we have children it would be a piece of cake, but I just had the HSG test done and it showed my tubes are blocked. He is not sure why, could be scar tissues since I had all c-sections. I would definatly ask for some testing to be done so that you don't have disappointment every month. That is what drove me to see someone, I couldn't take the tears each month.
Good Luck
Amy

Hi, Mariella. Sorry that you are having troubles. I would suggest that you go and see a fertility specialist. They can do the tests that you are wanting, and may even be able to put your mind at ease. Good luck!!!

Thanks for posting the info on the book, Dana. I am going to look into it.

- Heather
