For all of you off of Chantix, have a question for you:

My doctor only gave me an Rx for the first month (starter kit) and told me to call his office if and only if I went on it and had actually made it to 'quit' day. Anyway, I called and they're going to mail me the Rx but she said that I would need to see him in May for 'weaning' off the pill. I didn't think weaning was necessary?

Also, when he had told me (and I"ve read it on Pfizer, etc. site) that the initial intent is for a 12 week treatment; however, after the 12 weeks, if you and your doctor thinks it would be beneficial, another 12 mos. Rx can be given. I'd like to hear from both those that have stopped after 12 weeks as well as those who opted for the add'l 12.

Thanks much everyone!

Pfiezer & Chantix reps will tell you that you do not need to wean off chantix. However, many people I've known on chantix, including myself found it more "comforting" to do just that - to ease it out of our bloodstream, just as when you begin you gradually add it to your bloodstream. Hope this helps!

Thanks. So the weaning is the reverse of starting... decreasing the amount of mg. taken a day?

Yes - many have used their starter package backwards. I simply cut down to 1mg a day for a couple weeks, then 1/2mg a day for a couple of weeks, then 1/2mg every other day until the last pack was gone....

paula,
The last 4 days supply (8 pills), I took like this: 1/2 pill in the morning and 1/2 pill in the evenings for 5 days (that's 5 pills). Then I took 1/2 pill in the morning for 6 days (that's 3 pills). I had no trouble quitting the Chantix taking it like this.

THanks Chanty and Memaw. Doesn't sound like I should expect any issues.

This is really good info Memaw. I was wondering how I was going to come off of Chantix myself. Your approach makes a whole lot of sense to me. I think I'll do the same.

Thanks for the good advise!!!
