DS now sleeps through the night - from about 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

I feed him at 4:30 a.m. and put him back down to sleep again. He is usually pretty wide awake at this time and rocking him back to sleep often takes some time.

When he does fall asleep, it is usually for a couple of hours and he doesn't seem to fall into a deep sleep (he makes a lot of noise and moves around a lot).

Is it wrong to put DS back to bed after sleeping 8+ hours?

How do you handle this situation when your baby sleeps through the night but still wakes up early?

KeltoKel,
DD was the same way. As wierd as this may sound, putting DD to be earlier actually helped her to sleep longer. At first, I was lucky to get DD to go to bed by 10. I kept working at it, getting her to go to bed 1/2 hour earlier every week until now she gets sleepy around 8 and will fall asleep on her own if I put her in her crib around 8. Also, she still gets up between 3-4 but she will eat and then go right back to sleep until around 6 to 6:30. Good luck!

My last one is great. She goes to sleep at about 7-8ish pm but because i am up so late I actually wake her sometimes when I see her stir and feed her. She stays calm or we play a little hten I put her back in her crib and she goes back to sleep eventually(about 15mins) I dont rock but i do let them fall asleep on me.

Thanks for your feedback.

I wish more people would post. What do you do when your baby wakes at 5 a.m.? Do you try to put them back down after feeding them?

DS is really fighting me on this one. He is wide awake at 4:30-5 a.m.

Just had a huge post and deleted it. I reread what you wrote and wanted to give different advice to you.

Well 9-4:30am is great to begin with! wow a lot of woman have to beg, borrow and steal to get that. My kids except #3 were like that. #3 dont ask about, she'd make you not want to have any more. LOL but she's a cutie and is great now.

OK once awake you feed at 4:30am and hten put back to sleep. Got that part.....
You say that baby fusses and doesnt get into a deep sleep after you feed.
#1, is he burped all the way?
#2 is he changed?
#3is he still Hungry(did you give enough)?

If yes to all of these then place him in a different room. You will hear him if he cries for you. You know he is up because you are NOT getting back to sleep yourself and that is not healthy for your well being. YES in answer to your question YOU SHOULD PUT HIM back to bed after he has had 8 hours of sleep. The reason is is that you are TEACHING baby to go back to sleep. i hope this helps

Hi Kel --

Here's Lorelei's sleep schedule (3 months):
Asleep between 5 and 6:30 pm for approx. 2 hours, then up for a bottle.
Then sleeps for 5 hours, then a bottle (usually only part of one).
Up between 4:30 and 5:15 am, which is when we normally get up for the day, so DH feeds her and spends a few "quality time" moments with her. She's all smiles and gurgling at this point of the morning. He brings her to me (in bed) and we play for about 30 minutes before she sleeps for another hour (until about 7 am). By 9:00 am she's back down for a 30 minute nap (this is when I shower).

All in all, she's getting 11-12 hours of sleep each night, plus about 2-4 hours of naps during the day (depends on her mood and our travels). I wish that she went to bed later in the evening, but honestly, with our family getting up so early in the morning, I'm READY for her to be asleep by 6:30pm! (As an aside, I do a bath for her after I take my shower in the morning.)

my son is the same he wakes at about 5.30 but since he mostly doses makes a few noises and fills his nappy i'm happy to leave him in his crib and dose also. He sometimes will feed a small amount for comfort at this time but doesnt really want to be up until around 6.30-7. I don't get him up before this as i want to discourage him from getting up unless he is actually hungry. so my advice is keep at it and good luck.

Thanks everyone!

When he wakes at 4:30 a.m., he feeds and I change him before putting him down. He just doesn't sleep long during this stretch though.

Now this morning, I put him in his swing to sleep and here it is after 8 a.m. and he is still sleeping. Yippee! There is hope.

Thanks for the replies!

Kel

Kelto, my little guy is 3 1/2 months now and is sleeping the same as your ds. ARe you breast feeding? When ds gets up at 5am I go and get him and bring him into bed with me and we lye down to feed and he will usually fall asleep when he has had enough sometimes I have to pull him off cause he will drink too much and spit it all over my bed (yuck!) If DH is working I just keep him in bed but if DH is home then I will take him back to his crib and make sure he is wrapped up good and he will sleep till about 7:30am. If I am real tired I will bring him into bed with me again and we will sleep till 9:30am. I only get that treat once in a while though. When I don't feed him in bed I just make sure I keep him bundled while feeding and he goes back to sleep no problem when he is done. DS doesn't sleep much through out the day for me so I am very thankful he sleeps fairly well at night.
