After months of waits, visits to the doctor, x-rays, tests, etc., it finally came down to being diagnosed with IBS on Monday. I was happy none of what the doctor called "the bad stuff" came out in the tests, but I was disappointed at the same time.
Dissappionted because I was left with my doctor saying, "eat more fibre and watch your diet". All of which I am doing already. I was really hoping to get more answers. My flare-ups continue and I was in a lot of discomfort yesterday. I actually missed a day of work over it today for the first time.
I do have to bring my stress level down, and I've cut coffee and alcohol completely out of my diet. Even most dairy products because of the lactose, which seemed agrivate me.
Does anyone have any suggests what kinda of diet, activities, things I can do to start learning to live with it?

I have the kind of IBS where I had to aviod fiber and any roughage. My colon was so sensitive that I could feel fiber moving in it. Had one flare up that put me in bed for 6 weeks and any movement at all caused my colon to go crazy. Had another flare up that lasted 2 weeks years later.
I found ANY kind of stress would also trigger a flare up.. good stress as well as bad, so be warned.
If I ate anything I shouldn't have, with in 10 minutes, I was paying the price and it wasn't nice....
I don't know what happened but since I quit the statin drugs (was on those for 5+ years.. Had IBS 35 years) and I got on the natural supplements, I now can eat anything I want to and I am soooooo enjoying it. DO try vitamine E, 400 IU twice a day if you can't eat roughage. I found that helped me years ago and I quit them and forgot all about them. I think the combination of E and Omega 3 fish oil is what it doing it for me now.

I would suggest trying foods or supplements containing soluble fibre as opposed to insoluble fibre. The rougher type of fibre in insoluble foods can really irritate some systems. Any good book on nutrition will give you a list of the different types of fibre.
