Hey people, I'm wondering if someone can give me some feedback. I am almost 42 and in pretty good shape. I have had a job that involves strenuous lifting all day for the last 2 years, and before that I was a hairdresser for 20 years ( on my feet). For the last 2 months I have had some significant nagging pain in my right hip joint and occasionally right knee. I don't feel it in the morning, but as the day progresses, I feel it. It's kind of a radiating pain coming from inside the socket. I have tried some left-over Celebrex I had from when I had Tendonitis in my elbow. It didn't help, neither has Alieve, Motrin, Tylenol, or Advil. Some days I don't feel it at all, but others I can't wait to sit down. I'm waiting for my new health insurance to kick in next month, so in the meantime I'd appreciate some suggestions. Does this sound like arthritis? Thanks.

Hi,
It could be arthritis, but could also be a muscle, tendon, or ligament overuse or problem or it could even be something originating in the spine. Especially since you do alot of heavy lifting, you could have injured yourself somehow. Really, the best thing to do is consult a doctor to find out exactly why you're having the pains...especially if it is just getting worse over time.

desertdweller,
I have hip osteoarthritis and you sure sound like I did early on. I don't have much luck with any of the over the counter pain meds either. Hip arthritis can cause pain in the groin and it can radiate down to the knee. When you get your health insurance you'll need an x-ray to check out the hip.
Good luck to you,

Thanks for the replies. I looked up osteoarthritis is it does sound very much like what I am feeling. I don't think it's my back, because I only feel the pain in the joints themselves, no pain radiating down the leg at all. The other day my right hip hurt so bad I had my hand on it while I was walking, that's when I realized that I could feel a 'popping' in the joint every time I took a step with that leg. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I've also considered trying a glucosamine and chondroitin type of supplement. The stuff seems pretty expensive when I looked at the store.
I guess I'll find out soon enough, thanks again.

I also have sounds in my hips but it's not loud, it's more of a snapping, low toned grinding sound. It almost sounds like a muted down version of big air bubbles or something. My right hip does this with every step I take and for myself, anyway, it is due to me not having proper alignment with my right foot and leg. I found this out through my physical therapist. I do have mild hip arthritis so I went to PT again....and I told him about this snapping sound. It doesnt quite hurt, (the snapping doesnt really hurt, though my arthritis does) but it gets quite annoying. He had my try my best to walk as straight as I could...even though it was painful, the snapping was gone when I did that. I should say that i've had bad ankle problems on & off over 18 yrs and by now my right ankle is collapsed in and my foot turns out. This also causes my knee and hip to turn inward..so everything's out of whack. ANd I guess all of this over so manyyears is starting to catch up to me with arthritis, snapping, and my ankle problems still arent resolved. My ankle problem could have also contributed to me developing severe spine problems at my age. With my spine problems, I also had other hip/groin pains, and pains radiating to other places, but it was mostly nerve pain. If yours feels like the pain is in individual joints, then it could be OA. But there are many different things that can contribute to OA. Also, some people swear by the glucosamine/chondroitin....so maybe it does help some. I guess it cant hurt to try it.
