FergieUK 02-16-2007, 10:18 PM Hi Is there any weight gain products avaliable that are safe to use when your type 1 diabetic. Coravh 02-16-2007, 10:40 PM The only way to gain weight is to increase your food consumption and increase your insulin accordingly. Unless you are one of those people who does not gain weight easily (I have a few friends who are really luck that way. It's a good thing they're nice, otherwise I'd hate them) in which case I would suggest talking to your doc. It could be something like a thryroid issue. Cora FergieUK 02-17-2007, 11:02 AM Hi, yes i am one of those people with a fast metabolism, i can not get passed 9 stone no matter how much i eat so the only option i think is increase my eating combined with a weight gain drink plus weights and excercise. I will speak to my doctor. Mark1e 02-17-2007, 09:35 PM Try and build some muscle by having a protein shake after workouts. And have a good high protein breakfast beforehand too. For best results from the protein shake, mix the whey protein powder into full cream milk. You will have to cover it with some insulin. I had a similar problem to you, and I have good results with this. Mark FergieUK 02-18-2007, 09:51 PM Thank you mark, can you reccomend any products or a direction into information where i can learn about this, it is much appreciated. Mark1e 02-19-2007, 01:21 AM I just use the el-cheapo brand of whey protein concentrate at the super-market. Make sure it doesn't have too much carb in it. The stuff I use contains 17.5 grams of protein and 4.3 grams of carbohydrate in a 25 gram serving. The "meal replacement" products contain a lot more carbohydrate. I always use 200ml full cream milk as a mixer, because of the fat and the extra protein. The muscles are the most receptive to protein 30-60 minutes after a workout. But you need to focus on muscle building resistance exercises. Get the gym to put a program together for you. Watch your BG before and after as you may need to cover the shake with some insulin. My results have been good with this, but YMMV. I am 50 years old now and I was never able to build muscle, until I started using this technique 6 months ago. :) Mark FergieUK 02-22-2007, 03:07 AM Hi mate just wanted to come back to thank you for your information, i found it really helpfull, i will check out the supermarket this weekend. Take care  jenavive 02-22-2007, 02:29 PM Water.....just kidding. Try Symlin! jenavive 02-22-2007, 02:33 PM I'm sorry......I automatically thought of weight loss. Since that is the norm for most Diabetics. Disregard my last reply. I couldn't help in the weight gain department. All I have to do is look at food and it gets stuck right on my butt! Jen |
