my daughter is 21 months old and ever since she was a few weeks old she has had loads of chest infections, she has been on antibiotics more times than i can remember, a few months ago she had pneumonia which is the illest she has ever been. but i just wondered if anyone had ideas why she is ill nearly all the time
when my 5 year old comes home with alittle cold it goes straight onto my younger daughters chest every single time, and she will get better for a week at the max then be ill again(our doctors are rubbish, im thinking of finding a new doctors, they always say its nothing)
i have got asthma so i get quite a few chest infections too but even i dont get no where near as many as she does
could something be wrong with her or do you think its just that she is just a child that gets ill easily?

Hi sarahponari,
Have you been able to take your little one to an ear, nose and throat specialist or allergist? The reason I ask this question is because of your own history of asthma. Asthma can be triggered by allergies. Both asthma and allergies can produce a lot of mucous in the airways (sinus, throat and chest). It is possible that allergies may be triggering your child's chest congestion, which then becomes infected.
I have two children, one 8, and one now 22, who suffered with allergies and reactive airway. Both of them eventually had to have tonsils and adenoids removed, but are still on allergy medicine. Their allergies were confirmed by allergy skin tests.
Hope this helps. Wishing the best for you and your little one.

Hi Sarah, what came to my mind was maybe cystic fibrosis. Taste your daughter's skin and see if she tastes really salty. Those with CF also have bowel and weight problems too.

Hi,
Since your child has been on so many courses of antibiotics, it is important to rebuild the friendly bacteria in her stomach and intestines. Make sure you buy the correct probiotic formula for her age. As you rebuild her beneficial flora, it will also help to boost her immune system.
Best wishes,

It is very possible that your daughter may have asthma also. Children with asthma often do not wheeze and many times their symtoms can be just a chronic cough or a cough that appears with cold, respiratory illnesses, and especially become more ill if they get something like pneumonia. It also may be wise for the physician to do a sweat test. Please take your daughter to see a pediatric pulmonologist. I can not even begin to tell you the amount of times we see undiagnosed asthma at the children's hospital that I work at.
